    How long for COE?

My Federal 03 C&R came in yesterday. Took about 1 month. How long did it take for your CA COE to arrive?

I got my initial COE in about 3 weeks, from the time I had mailed my application to receiving the COE in my mailbox, this time of the year.

I sent my COE renewal 2/1 and they just cashed my check 2/23. A bit slower than what I had expected for a renewal. I figured two weeks, but looks like 4 weeks this time around.

FYI - COE renewals are $22 per year and you don't have to do Live Scan again. Just confirm/update your personal information (name, address, etc..) on the renewal form and send a check or write in CC info on the form and send it in.

            Just mailed my renewal yesterday.
The replacement normally arrives toward the end of March... it's never arrived after expiration.

Some jobs require having a COE, but in general, the COE makes the 03FFL more useful in CA:

Exemption from 10 day waiting period for C&R firearms.

Allows you to cash-and-carry C&R handguns and long guns in free states and bring them home without having to ship through an FFL.

Exemption from 1-every-30 handgun purchases (currently being enforced as for C&R only, but someone posted yesterday that they successfully DROS'd 7 handguns at once). There is a lawsuit pending on this issue.

When the new ammo restrictions kick in, they will provide an exemption to the laws prohibiting mail-order ammo purchases, as well as buying ammo out of state and coming back home with it.

So for the most part, it is a benefit only for collectors, however, the last two items impact all California gun owners.
It's $33 every 3 years for the 03FFL and $22/year for the COE.
It'll cost about $120 initially to get the licenses. It's worth it.
