Steele Peak is closed indefinitely. Trash and shooting in unapproved areas I was told by BLM Reps. OP shooting in the wrong areas got the Riverside Sheriff's Dept. involved due to complaints of bullets landing in inhabited areas. By the way that was the last local shooting spot left.

Gotta be a shooter and a conservationalist. Alot of people don't understand that it's crucial to our way of life to take care of areas that we love. -
because idiots decide its a good idea to bring a TV out there to shoot at and then leave it there thinking its biodegradable.

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country."

Stupid is as stupid does.
I wonder how many of the shooters who leave a mess at public sites, are the same ones who later complain when they come back and find the gates locked, and access posted?
We truly are our own worst enemies sometimes.sigpicComment

While I totally agree about the trash problem, from what the op said "complaints of bullets landing in inhabited areas" and other comments and stories, I don't believe that the trash is the main reason to shut this down. They would have found a excuse to do it anyway.
Remember the San Gabriel Valley Gun Club, aka Fish Canyon Shooting Range?
You can read about it here: article Basically, to appease local homeowners (who signed disclosures stating that they knew there was a shooting range nearby before purchasing their homes), the City Council ordered staff to change the zoning where my local shooting range is located. It will...
The part about all the new residents signing disclosure statements before allowing them to buy houses near by is so typical of "progressive thinking".Comment

I was out there this past Saturday the 25th. while everyone is firing off to the right (towards the mountain), a lil further in I saw a few groups firing off to the left. It was a WTF moment.
I seen a few groups with rakes cleaning up when they were done, that is always appreciated. Glad I'm not the only one. However it is now to late.Last edited by decastro; 02-27-2017, 10:13 AM."My rifle is good because I am good! Evil lies in the heart of man"Comment

most people that bring junk to the range have no intention of picking up the mess, I often hear them say they leave it for the next guy to use as a target, then the next guy leaves it for the next, and it builds up, and the last person to use it as a target will say they didnt put it there.
I wont leave anything behind, even a paper target or cardboard box, even if another shooter asks me to leave it for him to use for a target
because I cant rely on the next guy to throw it away or pick it up.Comment

Yep.
Only difference is the Nevada desert is very large, and there aren't ten million people within an hour's drive. So there isn't as much trash at the informal shooting spots. But there is still trash.Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. I've certainly been called that more than once - I've even seen Kes get called that. I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment
