    looking for 22lr snap caps

Does anyone know where I can get some 22lr snap caps? I have been looking all night and can't seem to find any anywhere.

Closest that I found are the ones from midway. They are listed as LR, but from the reviews they are not.

I bought from Midway. Not impressed. The red Tipton's are too short. The orange Pachmayr's are crap and are pretty much destroyed after one use.

I was looking for .45 and 9mm snap caps today. Bud's Guns had them in stock and cheaper than Midway. They probably have them in .22 too.

The only ones I've seen aren't like centerfire snap caps. They're just plastic, hollow facsimiles of a .22lr round that look like each use would take a chunk out of the rim. Whereas the primer on a centerfire cartridge could be replaced by a resilient substitute, it seems like a rimfire cartridge would be tougher to simulate. The rim would have to be some kind of soft material that might not survive multiple trips through a firearm.
If you just want to dry-fire, you may be able to use spent .22lr casings one at a time, though they obviously wouldn't act like a real cartridge.

I saw some at a gun show but they werent meant to be dry fired they were just for cycling. I was told buy a gun shop the only ones they make are only good for one use but there might be some out there. try rimfirecentral.com

Why do you need snap caps?

If you're testing for cycling then the plastic facsimiles work just fine since you will be cycling the weapon by hand and not firing the gun.

Now if you want to do dry fire drills, or test a trigger job, etc without risk of damaging the barrel face you can take a spent 22 cartridge and insert it into the chamer. The brass will be soft enough to cushion the firing pin and will not allow it to make contact with the barrel face.

If you don't have any spent casings you can pull the bullet off of one and dump the powder on your lawn. The resulting 'blank' can still be dangerous though, so fire it with hearing protection in a safe direction. You could even go as far as epoxing the bullet back in place to properly feed and eject the cartridge.

Keep in mind that this method works for general use, but after a couple dozen firings the rim will be so distorted (especially if it gets rotated between firings) that it may not cycle, extract, or eject properly. Always keep a small handful on hand for just this purpose.

I have the little blue buggers that seem to work okay. But repeated use just beats the crap out of them. Rimfire hits all over the rim. You'll get about 10 uses out of them before you'll have to file it smooth. I bought about half a dozen. I like that these guys are not the same color as my ammunition. I don't want to make a mistake of a ND and putting a hole in the wall.

I don't like keeping spring tension on my 22LR pistols, so I have to dry fire to release it.

From what I've read, the Orange polymer ones break, crack, and chunk off too easily. Use it only to load and cycle, but not to dry fire.

I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.
