Good point, I may have scored another deal so I'll keep my fingers crossed! And I'm just going to avoid any further dealings with him

I assume he was going to give feedback on Calguns because I don't believe Armslist offers transaction feedback.

        That sounds reasonable.

what makes you think you have the right to force a person to sell to you? What makes you think a person should be punished because you didnt get what you wanted? Even if the person drove to meet you, looked at you and said, I am not selling to you because _________. You dont have the right to force them to do anything. You dont have the right to punish them for their choice not to sell. The same can be said about buying, because I hate the Sellers who scream that the first "I'll take it" flaked out. That is part of the game of selling on a forum board.

Once a deal is agreed on and a "handshake" takes place (virtual or otherwise) it's a thing of honor.

Your comment makes it seem like the seller was not a willing party and the "deal" was simply one sided or mis-understood.

That being said....... If the deal was good enough, you should have expressed to him that if he changed his mind at any time regarding driving to you that you would be willing to drive to him.

Was that discussed at any time?

IF I were the seller, I also would have expressed that I had found a closer seller, but still wanted to give you "dibs" on the purchase if you were willing to drive.

Sounds like a simple "lack of communication" problem.

Julie reported for hidden tracking and more importantly, copying my post.

Hidden tracking? Damn it.... I copied their post! I guess situational awareness applies on these boards as well. You're not safe anywhere.

"honor" doesnt qualify for negative feed back. If "honor" had anything to do with this place the membership would be 1/2 its size.

The forum board is a cashier line. Up to the point of the actual transaction no feedback is appropriate. I dont know how many times I have drove to meet someone and they call me with the sob story, or they show me an item with a discrepancy on it not noted in the ad.

There is a seller on these boards who has almost no working knowledge of AR15s yet sells parts all the time. I have met this person to buy an item only to find out it was broken. He didnt know. Should I fault him, maybe??. Can he fault me for not buying it? He drove an hour also. I promised to buy it. He is out money for gas. Do we leave negative feed back? He was very upset with me and even said he might leave the feed back. When I replied, " then so will I." it shut him up.

He agreed to a deal, then backed out in order to save a little travel time?!? Negative or neutral, I'd like a warning about this guy, as I wouldn't want to have anything to do with him.

A man is only as good as his word, is such a quaint, old fashioned concept, no one believes that anymore do they?!? Or maybe just the buttercups?

I agree 100%. I sold a very nice 69-2 priced it fairly and agreed to a deal with the first responder at an FFL 2 hours from me and at just under my asking price. The transaction set to take place a few days away.

In those few days I received multiple offers above my asking price. One for $200 over my asking price at a FFL 10 minutes from me, wasn't even tempted to back out the set deal. My response if deal set fell through I would let them know. It didn't and I was fine with that.

It's called integrity those that say" suck it up" in my opinion are lacking in that department.

I'm with the last couple posts - for internet initiated transactions, your honor/integrity is everything - and we can only gauge that by feedback. It's a bit misleading for others if only good feedback is left when someone actually finishes a transaction - and nothing is said when they stiff others after having a "deal" set. However - as someone else noted - it's a bit dubious to leave feedback here for a transaction that didn't occur here. The rules for listing in other places may have different standards than those outlined here.
