Scenario for you guys

My gf told me today that her coworker's bf was mugged outside his apartment the other night by 3 guys. One held a gun to him while the others took his belongings and patted him down. Once they took all his stuff, the guy shot him. The bullet went through his arm and hit his lung. The guy went to the hospital but he's ok.

Question for you guys: if you were in this situation and had a CCW, how would u get out of this situation unharmed? Let's say the guy with gun is about 8 feet away so u cant really rush him or try to knock the gun away.

Take one of the guys patting you down hostage and hold him ransom for your belongings. If the one with the gun cares anything about his buddy he'll give your belongings back to you, along with his gun. If not, then you have a human shield at your disposal.

If I managed to get one of the perps as a hostage, I'd probably still shoot the ****er with the gun.

Note about 1:45. This guy is an IPSC champion in real life... Mindset is everything. If you have a CCW in these circumstances, you must fight. You cannot let a perp at your gun.

Try to avoid the situation by seeing it coming.

Run for cover or try to get one of the thugs in the cross fire while I draw my own pistol.

Do you have any more details around the overall situation? Is his apartment complex gated? Is this guy a non-gun owner? Was he in condition white all the time?

Would like to know a bit more so that we can assess what our answers might be.

As I understand the situation, you have 1 perp armed with a handgun 8 feet in front of you and 2 unarmed perps on either side advancing toward you to take your belongings. According to most armed robbery statistics, if the perps don't shoot you as soon as they point the gun, they're not going to shoot you. Obviously statistics didn't do much for this poor guy. However, assuming you've trained yourself to draw your pistol quickly and get accurate rounds down range just as fast, I'd say your first target would definitely be the armed perp. You have two advantages in this situation. You've trained for this scenario hundreds of times, and you have the element of suprise. The armed perp most likely has not trained himself to react in this scenario, and upon realizing that you're pulling a gun on him, he will panic as will his two friends. Whether he starts spraying and praying or just starts running, the element of suprise has tipped the odds of winning this fight in your favor. There's never any gaurantee you're getting out of that fight unharmed, or even alive, but depending on your skill set your odds have definitely improved over hoping this thug is a really bad shot!

Like everyone has already said though, if you were paying attention you may have been able to avoid this situation all together.

It's already been said, but situational awareness. Once they are up close and pointing a gun at you, it's probably not going to go well.

There if very little chance to escape unharmed if somebody is alread pointing a gun and plans to shoot you. You can however survie the encounter by fighting back but I doubt you would be "unharmed".

basically pull the gun start shooting from the hip, on the move.
