    best finish for my 870?

    Hello everyone,

i have a late 70's remington 870 wingmaster with blued receiver. i have added a 18" parkerized barrel. im not to fond of having dual finishes on the shotgun.

What finish should i go with? im not too familiar with what is out there. im looking for a durable black finish. Who or where can i send my firearm to get it refinished.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Wilson still offers their "steal" package.

Wilson Combat has been the innovator in custom pistols, long guns, and accessories since 1977. Home of the Wilson Combat 1911, EDC X9, WCP320, and more!

Includes park, or you can pay more for armor tuff.

If the bluing is nice on your receiver, I'd be tempted to hunt down a blued barrel for it.

like elSquid has suggested (post #2), consider keeping the finish as it came from the factory. even with wear, i'd keep a 1970s Wingmaster in it's original finish. ebay is a good place to look for correct time period original OEM barrels for your 870. Gunbroker is another online site to look for a barrel.
if you choose the online auction route for a barrel, choose a seller with excellent buyer feedback history and has a return policy that is buyer friendly. i would pick a barrel that has about the same amount of finish wear as the receiver i'd be matching it with.

To be honest. I am not a fan of the blued receiver. I like the look of a parkerized finish better. That's the reason I want to change it. I called Wilson combat and they want $250 for entire shotgun for their armor-tuff finish.

Still looking around for other options.

Couldn't agree anymore. Keep the wingmaster blued, those are too nice to mess with. I have a Wingmaster and an 1100 both from the 80's. I think their the best shotguns ever made.

The wingmaster should be left blued. Have the barrel blued.

I know this is no help but I kind of like the 2 tone look.

Keep the old wingmaster blued and take the $ you were going to spend on refinishing it and buy another 870 and mess with that one.

Lot of great suggestions here. You will not like mine - Leave it as it is!

Mine is as I received it used. All blued with some of it gone - many scratches and small points of rust here and there . I try to control the rust and keep it maintained (as it functions flawlessly). But then I only paid $110 for it received it without a great deal of added expense, want to keep it that way

The blueing on those old wing masters is awesome looking, don't ruin it. Go buy a mossberg 500 or modern 870 to bubba.
