    GUN SHOP AR standard

I see some gun shops are selling new AR's in the new configuration. No collapsing stock,no pistol grip and no flash hider. They are also claiming these rifles are bullet button exempt so they have standard mag releases. Have they jumped the gun a little with their own interpretation of the new laws? Ive read several posts of featureless AR's not needing BB then needing BB. Does anyone have a definitive answer as to what the hell is going on?

They did not jump the gun, "featureless" has been around as long as the original AW law. If the rifle does not have any of the other "features" listed on the AW law it can use a standard mag release. Your LGS is correct and can continue selling the "featureless rifles" for the time being.

Actually, not strictly true. There was an interregnum of about five years after the second AWB (and about four years after the Harrott decision) before any California FFL dared to import an "off list lower" receiver.

No AR-15s of any description were legally sold in California during that time.

I was not being specific to AR-15 rifles. There are many rifles that are "featureless" and they became classified as such when the laws were written.
