Featureless with Long Gun Purchased After 2014

Sorry to add another discussion on the new regulations.

I searched and came up empty, but I keep seeing people in various threads say rifles bought after 2014 might as well be registered.

My question is why? I understand they are already registered, but not registered as an assault weapon.

What is the concern with going featureless?

Receiving a letter after 2018 asking what one did with these rifles? I can understand the concern if that were the case and you tried to prove you went featureless and they assert the configuration is not featureless.

    Am I missing anything else?

Not sure where you got the 2004 time frame.

DROS of a long gun did not register it with CA DOJ until 01-01-2014.

    Summary:
Before 01-01-2014 = DROS of long gun did not register it
After 12-31-2013 = DROS of long gun registered it

Some people think that registering at all is anathema to owning an AR-15 derivative. To them any level of registration is bending over and taking it from 'the man', so if you're already bent over by owning a post 2014 AR-15 you might as well just take the whole thing.

Most people concerned with featureless are concerned with their rifles no longer looking 'tactical'. A small subset of people are concerned that cops won't know what a 'featureless' rifle is and will arrest anyone with a featureless rifle for possession of an unregistered assault weapon.
