    Youth hearing protection recommendation

Looking for recommendations on youth hearing protection. Would love to get them electronic muffs but don't want to break the bank. Kids are currently 4 and 6.

Peltor makes a Jr size ear muff that worked well for both of my kids even when we go to the NHRA drags at Pomona.

Use foam plugs and double up with Peltor muffs. Should keep you under $45 total.

It's more likely that you won't get them to wear them at all, which puts a damper on range trips where they must come for whatever reason.

But, apparently, it's possible to condition them to see parents wearing hearing protection, and get the imitation factor to work for you.

Talked to a guy at a concert; his 4-ish daughter was on his shoulders, and she was wearing protective ear muffs. I asked how he did that - he said he was a drummer, and wore them to practice, and she figured what dad did was cool enough.

Look up Champion Electronic Ear Muffs on Amazon. It's $20 and has a 4.5 star rating with over 500 reviews.

Whatever you get double up with foam plugs. That way if they accidentally take off the muffs they are still GTG.

Keep in mind that there is a bit of an "art" to getting plugs in correctly and at 4 and 6, this might be lost on them. By all means get them to double up if you can but I would absolutely make sure they are at least wearing muffs so that you can visually confirm that their hearing is protected.

Howard Leight Sports aren't that expensive for electronic muffs but I don't know how they might fit on children. Consider at their age that electronic muffs are probably worth whatever you have to pay so that they can easily and clearly hear the instructions you give to them. And they might think the electronic ones are really cool, thus making it easier to get them to actually wear them.

Was thinking the same about the electronic ones. My 4 year old already figured out the ear plugs since he wanted to be in the garage when dad was cutting wood with the saw and he can't wait to be big enough "to go shoot pews with daddy and mommy" which I think will be whenever I can find him some ear and eye pro. Dicks had some options for 25 bucks but there's definitely more non electronic ear pro options for kids.

+1 for peltors and i agree with the foamies inside, but consider that they may find them less comfortable than just over-the-ears leading to them taking them off/out.

I'd have the child put in foam ear plugs first, then wear a nice -30db pair of muffs.

Find ear plugs that double up as ear phones. That way they will wear them.
