This new 30 inch requirement has me puzzled. How long is the average M4 with a 16 inch barrel, A2 flash hider and the stock collapsed?

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Yes, the way you measure the 30 OAL has been changed to now include permanent attached muzzle devices.
In practice, this tends to only effect bullpups and rifles with folding stocks and extended flash hiders.
What new is that in order for any muzzle device to count towards the >30" OAL, the muzzle device has to be permanent. OR, registered as an assault weapon.
Once you have a registered assault rifle, there seems to currently be a consensus that your AW now only needs to be >26" with a >16" barrel. So that means extended flash hiders can come off.Comment

Mine is about 32 1/4". The flash hider adds about 1 1/4", so nominally it's about 31" to the end of the barrel.Comment

My car-15 with 14.5" barrel +1.5" Flash Hider making a legal 16" barrel and standard 4 pos stock is 31.5". I used to keep it in a 30" zippered discrete case and it pushed out the sides slightly.Comment
