Need a gun safe for in-wall closet.

I'm looking for a "gun safe" in the range of $500 to put inside a in-wall closet which have limited space of 27" x 20" x 60". Since I can't bolt this down due to wood floor or to walls due to bath room water pipes, this safe is mainly for fire/humidity protection only. The stack-on 24 gun safe fit in the both space and budget. Does anyone know a local dealer that carry this safe so I can avoid the hefty shipping charge? I'm also open to other suggestion. Also, have anyone use the flammable safety cabinet for storing ammo? These cabinet seem to be able to withhold heavy weight, some can hold up to 500lb per shelf per manufacturer. I never see one in person so I'm not sure if they fit for ammo storage.

Edit: My location is Westminster City, Orange County.

    your location would help.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

      Walmart carries them.
Do a site to store for free if it's available.

I was looking at a few on ebay. Less than or same price as walmart, free shipping, and you don't have to deal with walmart.

On the shipping thing, it's an old paranoia from when I was growing up.

My neighborhood (in Whittier), the running joke was that if you wanted your guns to be stolen, buy a gun safe.
EVERYONE had guns, and they were rolled in a blanket in dad's closet.
We all knew that if we so much as opened that closet door we wouldn't be able to sit down for a week.

But without fail, every time a neighbor bought a gun safe, they got burgled and their guns were stolen.

Whether it was an inside job with the shipping people, or one of the gangster neighbors always watching the area, nobody ever knew.

So anyways, I prefer to pick it up myself. Toss a refrigerator box over it so your neighbors don't see it.

Most discount delivery is curb-side only anyways, so if you're in an apartment it's pretty obvious.

turn out I mixed up the google search result. The one I want with fire protection is TD-24-GP-E-S, at around $800. The $500 22-24 gun safe is actually just a cabinet with no fire protection. Is $800 a good price for this safe?

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

I should be more detail on this. My house is an old house with a foundation that you can crawl underneath it. The floor is so thin that you can feel it flex, hear your foot step every time you walk, and the studs doesn't in the position I need it to be, so I just opt not to bolt it down. I will reinforce the closet door instead. I'm trying too hide this safe instead of putting it out of sight hence the in-wall closet situation. I do have alarm and camera system in place so that should help in case of burglar.

You are right. Further google shown that I can get a Bighorn 19ECX from Costco for $599, but damn that thing is 2" bigger that my closet . I'm trying to find one that is close fit to my cabinet to avoid side attack, but i guess I will have to look for a smaller one.

You have a subfloor under that hardwood floor. It is pretty stout, BUT...

Instead of screwing it into the floor, drill the floor, then go under the house and put a steel plate under the safe.
Run carriage bolts up from under the house through the plate and run the nuts down inside the safe.

IMHO, that's more solid than lagging into concrete.

Never thought of this. Will check tomorrow to see if this will work. Thanks a lot.

So after few hours of google, the only "safe" I found to fit all my requirement is the Stack-on 14 guns FS-14-MB-E for $400 from Walmart. It does look decent enough for the job. Any thought on this unit?

That's a darn good idea You could also use short sections of 2x4's or 4x4's under the floor. I have my safe bolted down to the concrete using 6" lag bolts. I like Cokebottle's idea, hec it even sounds stronger to me.
