Featureless H&K 94

A friend has an H&K 94 bought in 1985 and registered as a RAW in the early 90's I believe. Would it be legally possible for him to unregister this rifle and make it featureless ? The 94 is already specifically named on the original banned list so I don't see how it would be possible, but I have seen some threads on here about others taking RAW's unregistering them and making them featureless. I mentioned this to him and he came up with the idea of doing it to the 94 because it would be pretty easy - it already has a solid stock and the only other evil feature would be the pistol grip. So guys, is this possible ?

No. The H&K 94 is banned "by name" (the first version of the AW law), so no matter what changes he makes to it, it remains necessary to keep it a RAW.

That was version 2 of the AW law, which banned by feature. If you had an EBR that wasn't on the named list, you could register it as AW by a certain date or make it featureless (IIRC, there really weren't any "featureless" options back then). If you registered it, it is possible now to de-register it and make it featureless.

Your "friend" could probably work with someone like Beltfed Precision to swap out the named receiver and then build a featureless firearm. Their BPP94 is a clone of the HK 94. With a BPP94 receiver, pinned stock and fin grip, your friend is good to go.
