    NFA dealer transfer question

    Hello,

So my first NFA purchase was 11/28, I purchased from a gun Store in Colorado and set them up to transfer it to my FFL in AZ, they informed me it would be "a few weeks" before they could get authorization from the ATF to ship to my FFL, well as of today they still have not.

I was wondering how long does this normally take? Are they yanking my chain sitting on paper work they've yet to submit?

    thanks this is an SBR.

you'd probably get more info from an NFA-centric forum like the NFA section of AR15.com or subguns.com.

but it sound like you are waiting for the Form 3 to be approved. that could take anywhere from a couple days to multiple months. check the Form 3/4 timeline threads on AR15.com for ideas about the relative wait right now.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

      Thank you!

Since it's my first purchase I just wanted to get an idea on if I should be concerned or not, I was prepared to wait 6 months + on the actual transfer to me..but my noob self was not prepared to wait a long time just to get it to my FFL.

Since no one here or darned few has access or owns nfa firearms it is wrong forum. You need to ask in free state not republic of Kommiefornia.

I know the percentage of CGNers that know about or have access to NFA items is small..but this forum is quite a bit more active than most forums I have come across for AZ gun owners for example...

Anyway looks like I was right and got what info I was looking for pretty quickly..that's why I think this place is still great..even for those of us that have moved out of the PRK.

My understanding is that it could take as long as six months for the form 3 approval, although it usually happens faster than that. After it gets to your dealer and you file the form 1 it can take a while. Both of my SBR's and the suppressor I bought took right at eight months.

Thanks, they informed me they heard it was approved but are waiting for the paperwork.

I have Form 3 (dealer to dealer transfer) that are at 90 days. If they store told you a few weeks then what they meant is 1-52 weeks. We have had them take 2 weeks and sometimes 6 months.

Then once it gets to your FFL you then need to do a Form 4. We have Form 4s at 1 year.

I've heard some people in northern VA are waiting about 8-9 months for their Form 4 to be processed.

When the Gun Trust stuff changed it seemed to depend on what processor you got.

We have about 8 in limbo and 5 were denied and 3 went through. Sad part is one of the ones approved was the last one we did and took less than 60 days.

There really is no rhyme or reason to when you get approved.

Form 3's have been about 90-110 days for me since January.
Form 4's are 6-8 months but I run them at the same time as my form 3's so my clients get 3-4 months cut off the wait.

                        Thank you guys

Just making sure I wasn't being had.

I'll twiddle my thumbs and hope for the best time wise..When I do the form 4 I'll be using a trust..Wish me luck.

I am not going the trust route, but doing it as an individual since it doesn't make sense for me to use a trust. I just received a call from my FFL dealer since it seems almost every FFL dealer here is also a Class III dealer, and he said the Form 3's are taking 1-2 months, and the Form 4's are 8-9 months. It's sad to have so much money tied up for so long and not being able to enjoy the item we bought. I hope Trump fixes this national scam.

Which is why it's better to apply for a Form 1 and make your own. You could at least shoot it with the long barrel while you wait.
