What the heck is a "post ban" barrel?

It was suggested I get this barrel...

I'm wondering what is a post ban barrel?

Outside of California, Post Ban is generally understood to mean it's compliant 1994-2004 Federal Assault Weapon Ban.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

More specifically, it has no muzzle threads(there are states which still have the equivalent of the federal AWB still in effect).

Post 1994 ban barrels are unthreaded as you couldn't sell a gun with a threaded barrel or have a flash protector.

I think some states for their ban they have to have HBAR or bull barrels.. so possibly post ban here means its the heavy contour and lack of threads..

Contour has nothing to do with the pre/post ban thing. It's specifically the threaded muzzle(rather, lack of). If you look at the pre-ban version of the same barrel, it has a threaded muzzle.

That barrel profile(that's a hell of a lot more than HBAR) is for a service(match) rifle.

I seem to recall NJ or one of those east-cost states that viewed an HBAR to be a target rifle and therefore legal, instead of just an illegal EBR.

edit: its Maryland that allows for HBAR-marked rifles to be legal.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

That's so retarded. So a flash supressor is illegal? What the hell is so threatening about that?

I thought it was NJ too, thanks for doing the leg work on looking it up.

the evil gun banners thought that it made it so that you could shoot in the dark and mask your muzzle flash. flash suppressors are often called flash hiders. therefore it was an evil feature so that you could be an evil assassin without being seen.

they were so afraid of flash suppressors, they even banned threaded barrels that could accept a flash suppressor.

So now I'm curious... is it ok for a pistol to have a flash suppressor... in specific I've seen those AR15s being sold as pistols. Or is that a gray area?

Semi-auto detachable mag pistol (Glock, 1911, etc) cannot have a threaded barrel.
Threaded barrel or flash suppressor or muzzle break is OK with the mag locked.
A muzzle break welded to or made as part of the barrel does not require mag lock.

Note: AR and AK and others with a magazine well outside the pistol grip are AWs and require a mag lock....so once you have the mag lock then threaded barrel, flash suppressor or other is OK.

Now centerfire rifles can have a threaded barrel.
But if you screw a flash suppressor on the barrel, it becomes an AW and has to have a mag lock.
Screw a muzzle break on the rifle and you don't need a mag lock, as long as there are not any other evil features (pistol grip, folding or collapsible stock).

I venture it was suggested because it give you an accurate barrel worthy of quality target ammo yielding tight groups if shot correctly. Don't get distracted with barrel threads, you don't need a flash hider or muzzle brake for target shooting with .223 caliber.

Post ban barrel = no flash hider and no bayonet lug.

jesus, and just when I think CA is dumb. At any rate, that's still got nothing to do with why this particular barrel is "post ban".

                              Damn that's dumb.
