Just a buffer tube, no grip at all "featureless"?

Say I want to buy an AR15, with a compensator / brake - not a flash hider.

Could you just remove the collapsible stock completely, leaving only the buffer tube, and remove the pistol grip completely as well, leaving no grip at all, and wouldn't that make it totally "featureless"?

    - It now does not have a collapsible stock.

    - It does not have a pistol grip.

    - It does not have a flash suppressor; as I stated, it would have a comp / brake.

    - The law states rifles can NOT have a folding / collapsible stock; it does not state that they MUST have a stock at all.

    - As long as it meets the OAL requirements (which the buffer tube alone does) we're in the clear.

    - The law states it can not have a pistol / thumb hole grip, but does not state that it MUST have a grip at all.

    Thoughts?

If you have no pistol grip, what will hold in your safety detent and spring?

Yup. Now you have to find something to hold up your detent and spring for your safety selector!

Eh, just remove that too...We just need to transfer the rifle.

Once transferred, we can put on a fixed stock and compliant grip.

I'm just thinking how we can make it easier to transfer rifles...

We have had plenty of rifles transferred in this way. Even our middle man has sent us rifles this way. In a ziplock Baggie there is the pistol grip, safety selector, spring and pin.

Take the upper home, pull all the parts except for the trigger guard/bolt catch/rear take down, and transfer just the lower.

You won't legally be able to reassemble in AW configuration when you p/u after the first but you'll have the rifle.

                      What's the problem?

Theoretically all you need to do is remove the stock, turning it into an "other" which the law does not apply to. But that's up to you if you wanna play that game.

There use to be a commercially produced "Safty Detent Spring Retainer" available. I have one somewhere but haven't seen them offered for sale for several years.

I want a "quick release" grip I can yank off in the presence of any LEO's. I thought about no grip, just shove a screw into the safety spring hole.

Someone suggested that was illegal, you can "grip" the tang. I already cut off one grip flush, it just covers the tang and holds the spring. Nothing protrudes below the trigger. Seems legal, others say no. I use the thumb around the buffer tube grip style.

I thought about removing the tang, bad idea to ruin the lower. If I remove my grip "nub" I thought I could also do without the safety too.

Then there is that Rem 700 I've been eyeballing...

Last thing I want to do is spend more $ on finished rifles only to have Excremento come back next year and tell me it's all illegal. I expect that to happen 100%.

                              Except CA doesn't acknowledge others.
