    Moving To CALI

    Hi.

Got a friend who just moved back a few weeks ago. He has a safe full of rifles ( ARs.....) out of state that he wants to get back here with him. He has not had anytime to do much in terms of paperwork for the firearms as he is trying to finish up the house for the family to move in in the beginning of the year.

Will he have problems getting them registered in CA after the New Year even if he makes them featureless?

I told him just to send the paperwork in NOW (REGISTERED mail to the CADOJ) for the new CA resident instead of waiting till 2017.....

What should he do given that he has a full plate at the moment?

Wherever he's at now, tell him to stay. Don't move to CA.

If you have done your friendly duty and begged him not to move here then make a suggestion, either sell the rifles or turn them into featureless.

If the rifles are indeed featureless and not otherwise 'assault weapons' he would be able to bring them in 2017.

He will NOT be able to register them as 'assault weapons' in 2017, unless
          - they are here in CA in 2016
          - they're legal to import - featureless or crippled with something like a bullet button and has features
          - in 2016 they are legal, but in 2017 they are 'assault weapons' per the new definition.

Any time I hear of somebody moving to CA now, I cringe, throw up a little in my mouth, cry for awhile, and pray for their soul.

I'll talk to the wifey tonight. I'm pretty sure we can store them in her safe. It's no biggie. We can have anything we want here!

It is a done deal as he closed escrow over a month ago and has been busy trying to do the renovation and move back the beginning of the year!
He did not even think about the firearms till I asked him about them!

I am still trying to wrap my head around new 2017 rules. Please confirm my understanding or correct my misinterpretation:

                    1. AR must have fixed stock....no multi-position retractable stocks....they need to be permanently pinned.... Therefore not foldable.

                    2. AR must have no grip .... Therefore the likes of MonsterMan Grip is acceptable ?

                    3. No need for bullet buttons once featureless?

                    4. No flash hider
