    Another one leaves CA

APEX Tactical Specialities, commonly known as “Apex”, and known to most as the company that perfected the Smith & Wesson M&P handgun trigger, has announced that they are moving the company from Los Osos, California to Peoria, Arizona and expanding from 6,000 square feet to a new 50,000 square feet facility. The company itself has an interesting history.Started by co-owner Randy Lee in 2000, the company was originally known (and still is, within those circles), as a go-to shop for revolver actions and custom gunsmithing.Expanding into design and manufacturing the company’s growth skyrocketed and included at least one move already from 500 to 6,000 square feet of today.Per their press release, the move is needed to ensure the company has a stable growth path.

Expanding from 6,000 sq ft to 50,000 sq ft? They must be doing very well.

That was my thought as well. As a phacility 50k is massive by comparison. Good for them.

I agree with all of you. Good for APEX.

It infuriates me that companies have to leave CA to run a decent business but I don't blame a single one of them.

Agreed. Situations like this can really make life exciting for their employees making the move as well. A fresh start in a Pro 2nd state, perhaps an opportunity to purchase their first home...Could be win-win for many of them.

Kind of old news as they left about 6 or 7 months ago. Happy to see they are doing well, my M&P 9 is a much better gun thanks to them.

It would be interesting to see how many firearms related businesses have left CA since the 1990's and how many jobs have moved with them.

Not nearly as many jobs as have gone into California for tech, etc. And the tech jobs are much better paying. The housing and traffic situation in LA and the Bay Area make it plain California doesn't have to worry about a few gun companies upping stakes and leaving.

No one cares about the California firearms businesses, or any small manufacturers, moving out of state, except in some cases the new host communities. When we moved our little five-man company to Reno it was announced on the local teevee news and people started showing up to check us out while we were still unpacking.

Love it here (17 degrees when I left the house this morning). Don't even like going back to SoCal for a visit anymore (which I still have to do to see my mother). We left many good vendors behind in Orange County and we're encouraging them to move up here too. One of our largest vendors, an injection molding company, will probably be here within two years.

It would appear as if the people who actually track this stuff would disagree. 2012-2014 saw a loss of 2300 jobs in the state of CA. People don't realize CA is the second largest firearms economy in the US. Add DoD contracts and we are the biggest.

I don't think they need to be firearms related. In california, you automatically have reason to move if you own a business

Their rent is likely less per/sq ft in AZ than in CA.

And my guess is the CA legislators see this as a win.
