Featureless isn't as ridiculous as I thought

Its to avoid applying any directional pressure on the stock with your trigger hand; moving it to the side is a good way to accomplish this. Unfortunately it's really only practical for bench/prone shooting; I wouldn't hold a rifle that way if I were on two feet..

So this is a thing? I might try it that way next time I go to a range. I so seldom shoot that way because I just go into the desert most of the time.

I'd speculate he's used to shooting that way due to handling bolt action Remington 700. the safety on the 700 is where his thumb would be.
and IMHO, featureless is ugly and not only that, it's compromises a persons grip and can be a safety issue. but i'm sure CA politicians want it that way

Many well known shooters shoot like that. I also naturally shoot like that. It feels more natural than wrapping hands around the PG and torquing the gun is less when you position your hands like it.

Once you start shooting out 600+ this will help with trigger control. You can even do a test yourself. Take your AR or AK and with gun empty pull the trigger and see if your thumb moves at all. Then do it with this grip. See which has more movement.

This has nothing to do with featureless, and is definitely done by a lot of people on rifles that have a pistol grip. When you're prone, you aren't using the grip to support the rifle, that's what your front support, rear bag, and shoulder are for.

i grip my featureless rifle just fine?

my only issue is that you need to install an ambi-safety switch.

since if you take a class or do run and gun and you have to constantly flip it to safe/fire, having to always move your left hand to do it gets annoying.

Okay thanks. My rifle shooting is usually centered around getting as many bullets in as little time as possible out of the far end. It's more work now that my friend has sold his M16.

This shooting at long range by going slow business is new to me. If I wanted to shoot long range I just used my other friend's M60. Precision was not so important as long as you had enough ammo to eventually put bullets on target.
