just to clearfy what I am saying and why I am saying to take caution here,

My buddy owns an AR15 pistol. He bought it from a guy who turned an AR15A2 rifle into a pistol in his garage, but since this guy sold it as a pistol, no NFA was violated. this is exactly what the guys here are telling you and is 100% false

a rifle made into a pistol, no matter how many times its sold, no matter how long it has been a pistol is still an SBR by all facets of the Law.

if this elderly lady handed you an AR15 pistol, would you automatically assume its safe to sell as a pistol when she has no understanding of it.

Definitely not, but that may not be a fair comparison. This is a single shot pistol, not a semi-auto of any kind, that has been in Ca by it's thousands of copies for a long time, was originally purchased as a pistol, and will be sold as such. There are no rifle parts, and it's not a SBR, and she IS aware of the family history of the gun so I'm confident that DOJ is not going to have a problem with it.

I'm not worried about that. There are no problems with swapping barrels in and out of any of our semi-autos, and I never had a concern about that with this piece since it is not a converted rifle. I was only wondering about getting the forend off without damaging it

That does settle it, if you and the seller know it was bought as a pistol, then DP's concerns are addresed. He is correct BTW. Without knowing for sure it would be preferred to seek legal advisors.

I have seen Dracos that were clearly AKMs at one time.

You have a nice older model TC Contender, they are very nice pistols. I have 3 Contenders and like them very much. IIRC, there were no rifle conversion kits at the time those particular pistols were made so I'm pretty confident they are pistols and were always pistols. At any rate they will be transferred as pistols so that pretty much ends any controversy. They don't have a particularly high value and there are very few guys interested in Contenders but the right buyer would be very happy to find a new home for these.

2 frames, some barrels, including a 45 acp with a choke, a 22lr, 44 mag, a 7-30 waters carbine barrel, some others, one or two. Grips too.

Wow. DP is trying to keep people out of prison and gets attacked by people who don't know what's what. If you buy a used Contender pistol and you don't know if it was originally sold as a rifle or pistol you are risking prison. I bought a new Contender pistol this year. I would rather have had an older model but without knowing for certain that it was not originally sold as a rifle it wasn't worth the possible prison time.

Sorry but I would not rely on someone just telling me it was always a pistol. How many of you have told your wives about every gun you've bought? Remember the ATF can find out for certain if it was a rifle. If they say it was a rifle first, you now gave an SBR.

                    ETA:
Btw if what Russ says is true and it can be verified there would be nothing to worry about. I would not just take some guy on a forum (even Calguns!) as gospel. No offense to Russ.
