    Last minute purchase

    Hey guys, I'm living in OK right now (school/job) and am moving back to CA in a week. I'd like to purchase a couple of AR receivers out here in OK and bring them back with me. I'm currently an OK resident, so I'd be registering them under the "New CA resident firearm registration form." Which I believe has to be submitted within 60 days. I want to register these 2 receivers under the new AW laws. I know, I know, most of ya don't want to register anything but these are the only ones out of the pack that are getting registered!

    Anyways my understanding of the new laws are as follows;
    1) In order to register an AR as an AW the firearm must have been purchased and DROSed before Jan. 1st 2017
    2) The firearm must be registered as an AW at some point before 2018

    Because I'll be doing an out of state transfer I believe I'll have to take the receivers to an FFL for DROS and background check. My question is: what do I need for the transfer? CA DL, CA safety certificate, proof of residence, etc...?

    Let's cut to the chase, and address this: "I want to register these 2 receivers under the new AW laws."

    Want all you want, but there is no and will be no registration of a "receiver" as an AW.

        Would you try that again, please?

        I genuinely cannot figure out what you are doing.

        For example, you are in OK for school/job, which suggests you are a CA resident when not in OK for school, but you propose to somehow be a 'new resident' ...

        Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

          This is confusing. Just don't come here. You'll hate it.

            Lol sorry for the confusing post. I'm not going back because I want to, I'm going back for family.

            To clarify, I grew up in California but have spent the last 4.5 years in Oklahoma. Four years of school and the last 6 months at a job. I was established as an OK resident but am in the process of moving back to the Bay Area. I've been traveling back and forth for the past month and am officially moving back in about a week. I'd like to bring back a couple of ARs that I plan to pick up this weekend.

            My understanding is that as an established OK resident and moving into CA with firearms I would have to fill out the "New CA resident firearm form" within 60 days.

            My question is; what is the process of bringing firearms into California? Do I need to do anything besides fill out that form? For example do I need to reDROS the guns at a CA FFL?

                You'll need a California Driver's License or California ID to complete the form. So if you plan on doing it prior to 1 January hit the ground running once you get back in the State.
