    Firearm Stolen at UPS Facility

I purchased a custom bolt-action receiver from a fantastic retailer and it's been stolen by a UPS employee. It was scheduled to arrive at my FFL earlier this week. But tracking showed "Delayed" with no explanation. So I called UPS and they said that the shipping volume just very high that day and it didn't make it into sorting, and that it would be delivered the next day. Well, the next day has come and gone and nothing. So I call again and they now say it's been lost or stolen off the truck.

The UPS location is San Pablo, CA.

The receiver is a Defiance Machine Deviant Tactical with some custom options. So I doubt the thief knows what to do with it, as it is not a functional firearm at this time. And I doubt the average UPS employee knows how to build a $3,000 bolt-action rifle. So it's probably going to be sold on the black market at some point. I have no information on the serial number, as it never made it to the FFL for DROS.

So now I gotta wait another 5 months for a new action to made, I'm sure.

The ATF would love to hear about this.

Besides being inundated with packages before Christmas, Fedex, UPS and USPS, have botched deliveries. The stories are out there. We received a notice that at 4:30 PM on Monday, our USPS order of MANY Christmas presents was delivered onto our porch. We were home at the time and no package came that day.

My only hope is that God new a family with kids that needed a nice Christmas who got the package "accidentally" delivered to them.

We filed a claim with our CC.

Well that sucks, I hope they insured it before shipping it out.

That UPS facility is well known for theft in the company. I've never seen it but have been told by a UPS driver that it backs up to an empty field, and boxes get tossed over the fence on a fairly regular basis.

Yeah, I understand this time of year is hectic for shipping companies. But this wasn't a package that made its way to the wrong truck or the wrong address. This was stolen right off the sorting line by an employee. It was never scanned. It was never entered into the system once it got to San Pablo. So either it coincidentally fell off a cart or truck or conveyor belt in the warehouse and is now sitting under a table, or an employee intentionally pocketed it because the shipper's name has "shooting" in it and the receiver's name has "arms" in it.

The manufacturer should move your order to the front of the line. And that's BS, UPS needs to investigate that. Call the ATF

What am I gonna tell the ATF? They are gonna say, ok thanks. And I'll never hear about it again. You think they're gonna send some detectives down to the UPS facility (where packages are probably stolen every day) and interview the hundreds of employees there? Nah. UPS is gonna refund the shipper eventually and they'll put in another order to Defiance for me most likely.

I'm just imagining the look on the thief's face when they open the box expecting a pistol they can sell, and find nothing but the receiver to a bolt gun that they have no clue what to do with. They'll probably trash it because that sort of thing is hard to move on the black market (I'm guessing). Maybe not though.

Our business is having issues with UPS.

I requested a meeting with our UPS Account Manager, but she has been called in to help sort packages.

So the response is basically, Deal with it until after the holidays.

Yeah, I'm sure that's what will happen in this case too.

ATF website says the sending FFL is the one who must file any reports of lost/stolen guns during shipment.

I have a number of UPS packages inbound and they all went to "Delayed" status when they hit San Pablo. Still waiting for delivery to be rescheduled.

You have recourse through the seller. The loss or theft is on them since they were the shipper. I expect they had it insured via UPS as well (though some companies will carry their own insurance).

Contact the seller and tell them what happened. If they are a reputable company they will take care of you and deal with UPS directly to recover their losses.

Yes, I already spoke with them. They have all the information I have. We're both just waiting on UPS to do their faux "investigation" on the matter. Ha! like UPS is actually doing anything. They'll sit on it for a few days and then issue a notification that it's gone.

I've had it happen before with guns, more than once. Did you tell them it's a gun? That often motivates them to find it.

If that's the case, then maybe there is hope it's really just in the back of some random 18-wheeler on the lot.
