Test firing.

If you have a gun for sale and someone wants to "try it out" to see if they "like it", where do you stand? I'm a little hesitant to go along with it.
I do need to add the potential buyer has no Itrader rating and only a couple of posts. I feel like if I take the time to do it then they back out I've wasted a couple of hours not to mention cleaning the gun for a potential new buyer, as well as adding to the round count.
Also if you were to go along with it, how many rounds do you let someone fire to decide if they "like it"?

Well, if you're talking about the Sig SS .45 you have for sale then I would say no.

The ONLY way I'd likely do it was if they would agree to like a $100 paypal non-refundable deposit and they pay the range fees and bring ammo. Then I "might" consider it.

I met a potential buyer at an indoor range to let him "test drive" a handgun I was selling. Worked out and we did the PPT there at the range shop. He's paying the range fee and they have his licence while he shoots so I didn't think there would be any downside to the plan.

I don't see any gun stores that will let you test fire a gun before you buy, tell him to go rent one and if you like it let me know.....ether he wants it or not !

The few times I've sold a gun to a private party, I've always offered a test fire when there was a range within 20 miles.
I've also let buyers listen to a stereo & test drive a car I sold. With a new shooter, it gives me a chance to introduce someone to shooting & provide some basic instruction.

Does that make me "special?"

If a buyer wanted to meet me at my local range I'd let him shoot a mag.
I would pay his range fee if he meets my price.

But so far at least, I don't sell guns.

Sounds like a pain. If it's a high end/cost gun or some rare/odd piece with a limited market, I would be more inclined. But guns should sell themselves.

I would do a YOUTUBE video showing yourself test firing the gun for sale

that would save a lot of time for a person wondering if it was reliable or had something wrong with it without firing it first.

show the gun , show the target, show the ammo used, etc

If the prospective buyer is nearby, no problem...I've got a key to a 600 yard range open 365 sunup to sundown.

If I'm shipping a gun, I can offer a 3-day non-shooting inspection...as I don't control the ammo used.

yep, I wouldnt waste my time with the wishy washy or "tire kicker type"

sell it to somebody else, Ive never had a person ask to test it before buying, so unless the buyer is a personal friend, NO.

I have always sold the firearm and then they can do what they want with it. Even test fire it.
I do not get to test fire the specific firearm I buy at the store. Just as long as you are not selling junk I would not waste my time unless I felt like going to the range. Then heck he could shoot any of my firearms including my 50BMG rifles.

Well I'm glad that I'm out of line. I thought I was being unreasonable but glad to know we are all as equally out of line...��
