    need some help

[U]All content which is posted is strictly fictional and part of a fictitious novel being written, any correlation between the "novel" and real life is strictly coincidental.

Sorry had to get the "legal disclaimer" out of the way. OK so 7 years ago a certain grandfather passed away who was a what you might call " redneck". Plently of guns he had collected over the years, most of which purchased private party with no FFL transfer involved, anyways after he passed away his oldest daughter took possession of all of his rifles and handguns, put them in her attic until her sons were old enough to take possession.

Well now that time has come and one of the sons is wondering how he can get the weapons transfered into his name in order to avoid any possible legal reprocutions. As stated above most of these guns were never registered to the grandfather, or the mother for that matter. What should he do in order to transfer the weapons to his name without fear of having them confiscated? Thank you for any help you can give.

Start giving details, including the ages of the kids looking to take possession, and the states where every party lives, state where grandpa lived, if you want your 'novel' to make any sense.

And if you want complete information, the details of the firearms involved, particularly if there are any black rifles.

I seriously doubt that. For one thing, the situation you outline would make a lousy addition to a novel.

In any case, as SkyHawk says, to properly sort out things we'd need a whole lot more information. The details that would be required are the sorts of things that shouldn't really be discussed in public with a bunch of strangers (including everyone in the world with Internet access). And no, I don't believe this is fictional, nor do I think anyone else is really likely to believe it either.

So the interested son should consult a qualified lawyer and lay everything out privately for him. His discussions with his lawyer are confidential.

The great majority of firearms in this country are unregistered. Always have been, always will be.

Make sure one of the characters in your novel realizes that.

Have the protagonist verify the guns are all legal for mags, barrels, upcoming laws, not a current listed ban, etc.

No "black rifles" mostly bolt action rifles, shotguns, revolvers, semi auto handguns, nothing banned. And the grandpa lived in CA, so do the grandkids. Neither of which are prohibited from owning firearms. Both of legal age.

i purchased the majority of my collection before 1991 when you could buy firearms out of the classifieds and at yard sales with no ffl or registrations required. if the firearms and people involved are older than 1991 it could happen like that in a novel and have a happy ending.

Then let it be a happy ending.

"Mostly" and "No black rifles" are in direct contradiction to each other.

its either No or some and if some, which type.

also high cap magazines are illegal in many cases as well so those semiauto pistols need to be looked at for both AW designations based on configurations and what style / capacity magazine do they have

                  list everything here
the person will need to take a test before ownership
and volreg forms will need to be filled out if you want to inform the State of your possessions.

OK when I said mostly, I ment that most of them are bolt action, then there are a few shot guns, pistols etc, every gun is ca compliant. As for the pre 1991 private sales, he didn't really give a rats *** about that, for all I know the transactions took place the day before he died (7 years ago)
