    "Better" guns for NYPD

Veteran cops upset about choices offered only to rookies.

The gun, as designed, can hold 17-round magazines — two more than the Glock 19. But the NYPD had the manufacturer customize the Glock 17s to carry only 15 rounds so it would be consistent with the interchangeable Glock 19 magazine.

Did they cut down the grip or something?

      "Better" guns for NYPD

They've got something like 35,000+ cops. It would cost a pretty penny to give everyone a new gun.

Limiting the mag is a bit silly.

I'm sure a lawsuit is forthcoming from the police union.

No need to issue current NYPD a 17 gen 4, if they want one pony up the $385.00 blue label and get your three 17 round mags that come with it. Limiting the 17 round mags to 15 is just stupid, absolutely no reason for that. I can see the Glock rep, you want to do what? Well yeah of course we can make it happen, but it will be $$$ more money then the standard 17 round mags. Maybe it's just another confused journalist, really can't see even NY being that stupid.

Refuse to provide anything to the officers, then have them apply for a permit to purchase like any other New York resident. Some animals should not be more equal than others.

Require every law enforcement agency and government official to abide by all laws in the state they serve in and watch how fast these stupid restrictions on law abiding people go away.

Really not getting the animal reference. I mean in the animal kingdom, there is nothing fair or equal. The predators rule and eat the weaker animals. So your saying it's unfair that the Mountian lion has claws and big sharp teeth and the Deer doesn't.

I am not sure that is an option. NYPD also has special trigger weight requirements (something ridiculous like 15lb trigger pulls) and dual action only for all service pistols, if memory serves. Can't just use any ol pistol there as a cop.

The wording makes me think they had the gun modified to fit a Glock 19 magazine. That would explain 15rd capacity.

I guess they finally got rid of the 5946 as an option. They were a surprisingly popular choice while I was in NYC.
They best was seeing the old-timers walk around with model 10s - who'd of thought that?

Looks like they are "custom" blocked 17 to 15rd glock mags:
