How are the Remington 700 308s?

Was thinking of buying a base than a chassis kit.

I have a Rem 700 Police 308 with a 26" heavy barrel and I love it. It's a great platform to start a precision long range build, if that's what your end goal is. Out of the box it's perfect for learning long range, and you can upgrade as you get better. It'll outshoot you all day long.

Depends. If you are the average shooter, they work acceptably. If you are a skilled marksman, they will need work and perhaps a new barrel depending what your standard of accuracy is.

You might want to check the going prices for the Remington SPS heavy barrel 308 on Gunbroker, last time I checked they were under $550.

I bought a SSD 16" with a 1-10 twist accuracy is about 3/4" -1" @100. Just installed a HS precision stock and lighted the stock trigger to 3# I will be taking it when I have time. I researched the rifle and people say to replace the houge stock and then the trigger, I just lighted the factory one.

A nice Jewell trigger is a whole lot better. If you can swing it, it's worth every penny.

They are Remington's just like everyone else's nothing different, just same ol same ol.

I've had mine for probably 8 maybe 9 years be for that it was my father in-laws primary hunting rifle since the mid late 70's. It is a bare bones 700 other than a trigger job great for hunting has a heavier wood stock and I prefer the wood over plastic just because I like the walnut stock. It depends on what the intended use is but from my experience it is a decent gun and you get what you pay for with it, lots of mods are available.
