    maching rifle barrel

I have a Remington 783 which I enjoy, but I was wondering if anyone knows of gunsmith who can machine a rifle barrel to accept a muzzle brake. Any comments as well who help ie; Is it worth the cost to thread the barrel?

There are plenty that offer this service. This has been a popular modification since the end of World War II on old 1903s, 1917s, Mosins, Arisakas, and more.

Google the "Johnson" brake; when Melvin Maynard Johnson Jr. ceased production of his Johnson 1941 rifle and Johnson Light machine guns, he started the "Johnson Custom Gun Department" offering this exact service on installing the "Johnson Brake" on such WWII bring-backs and surplus imports. the brake was effective and did exactly as it was intended to so.

Good luck, but I don't think you'll have a hard time finding a smith that will do it.
