Taser in checked baggage

Anyone have any experience in checking a taser into checked baggage? I have a taser pulse I wanted to bring with me but apparently the airlines and TSA do not know the difference between a stun gun and a taser so the rules are very vague. I've checked unloaded firearms into checked baggage with ease but never a taser.

I would err on the side of TSA stupidity and go with the stricter guidelines.
