CMP 1911s - Selling or Melting?

    Hey guys and girls,

Apologies if this is a well-discussed topic - I haven't found much recent news.

I know Obama signed an act that would allow CMP to sell army reserves of 1911s in Dec. 2015. In June of 2016, John McCain proposed in the National Defense Authorization Act to melt down those same guns. Then, in October 2016, Mark Johnson from CMP provided an update on their website that they haven't received authorization to sell them yet.

So, anyone know what the deal is? Any movement on McCain's wonderful idea to destroy thousands of pieces of history?

^^^ What he said. They're the only organization authorized by law to directly receive and resell US military small arms.

last report said they were waiting on SECARMY to ok the sales. Obozo's appointee, Eric Fanning, has no intention of ever selling any firearms.

All we can hope is that Trump will fire this douche and appoint a real American to the position, and he will free up these pieces of history for us to purchase

The CMP still has to obtain an FFL. God knows how long that will take.

No word on McCain's proposal? I sure hope they don't get melted. I feel like that would be akin to breaking a thousand mirrors - so much bad karma to destroy so many nice pieces of history.

Back in 1960 my father bought a surplus 1911 through the NRA for $25. It was probably a CMP program then too (CMP was part of the Army then).

Then the 1960s happened and handguns were nearly outlawed in this country. Maybe the new Administration will reverse that, if it's not packed with neocons.

if that ever gets authorized, I so want two.

one to keep all original, and another for one of the custom shops to work over

CMP says that if they ever get authorization to sell, they'll likely start at $1000 bucks. Thanks, but no thanks.

That's not a bad price. Better than $1,300 or more for a Kimber, with the crucial difference that the CMP 1911 will work right out of the box.

Apples and oranges. A $1300 Kimber (or anything else for that matter), is a brand spankin' new 1911.

The $1000 CMP 1911 will likely be "Rack Grade" which is basically a worn out clunker that is safe to fire. If they were $1000 for the CMP Special grade, I'd be interested.

Well, my presumption is for $1000 you get a gun that was used in an actual war by actual GIs, who trusted their life to it to bring them back home safely.

                            To me, that's worth something.

Or, maybe all the CMP 1911s were training pieces, or similar. Either way they have some history.

They will be heavily used but serviceable. I imagine the cracked frame pistols have been destroyed by now.
