    Steer clear of spenceville...

So I was out there this weekend to sight in my scope, and the people next to me were all hanging over my rifle. I was sharing their bench with them since there are so few out there, and most are all busted up. I'm right in the middle, and to the far left is some people shooting 22's at a flip around target about 25 feet in front of them. From the far right side of the range I hear "BOOM!!!" and feel a gust of hot air blasting past me. I look over, and there is one of the guys shooting a nagant across the range, laughing about putting a hole in that guys target, and drinking a beer. After having a bullet fly past me about 5-10 feet away, I packed it up and headed back on base. I'd rather pay 4 bucks an hour and only have 100 yards than die at the hands of some drunken bastard out there!

I just can't believe how stupid some people are. This is not the first time I've seen crap like this. A few months ago, I saw a guy get out of his van, walk up to the line carrying a rifle with his finger on the trigger (and obviously loaded with the saftey off). A second later I hear boom and look over to see a cloud of dust a few inches from where he was standing. Dumbass almost shot his foot off. I had to leave that time as well.

    Mandatory gun porn...

had to ask, open mag well plus evil PG? It's registered, I suppose, right? Or at least a single shot/manual action?

You're right about the stupidity of people. Booze & firearms don't mix. Lost a really close friend last month last month in AZ. Came home after drinking & decided to clean his Glock & BOOM! shot himself in the head. The PD said it was accidental. I'd rather shoot at a controlled range with screaming ROs than hanging around clowns like these. At least I know I can come home with a hurt ego rather than a box. Enough said.

If your rifle is kosher, hats off to you. Nice set up.

Him "heading back to base" is a sign that he is in the military.

Being in the military does not give him a get-out-of-jail-free card. If he has a military AW permit that is another story, it would be better to hear it from him rather than us speculating.
        Please, calm down.

Sorry about your friend. And yes, I would rather shoot at a strict and safe range, then a loose one and end up shot. My rifle is good to go. I got my permit before I brought it into the state from home.

Well, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and think that they were doing things legally, unless they prove otherwise. No one on this board should have to say "my legally registered AW." It should be automatically assumed.

I should also add that if there is anything of questionable legality, why point it out to the whole world/DOJ? Pass it off in PMs.

I would rather assume that it is illegal and that they don't know it, hopefully educating them of their mess up and keeping them out of jail. Wouldn't you like to help keep a fellow gun owner out of jail?
                Please, calm down.

+1, it gets tiring having to read that all the time because...

ehh...I'm used to it, but it does get annoying. People always ask me at the range, or tell me to go hide my gun because the ranger is coming down the road. The last time he showed up, he looked at it, looked at me, smiled and left. Generally people aren't dumb enough to commit a felony like that.

Anyways, in case anyone has been feeling a need to go there, try to go during the week to avoid the weekend "special" crowd. Most of the time you will be the only one there between 7-4. I wouldn't show up before 8 though, because the sun comes up over the rocks downrange, and you can't see crap for a while

Do you think the DOJ wouldn't know that that setup could be illegal? I remember a couple months ago one fellow posted a picture of his Glock with one of those magazines that attaches to the rail, however he didn't know that that made his Glock an AW since it acts like a forward grip. He promply removed the picture and gave his thanks for possibly saving him from multiple felonies and losing his gun rights.

Read my post above. It's a personal opinion but, people who ask if a gun is a registered AW come off as treating the OP as an idiot. Again, I like to think that people are intelligent enough to follow the laws. If you have any concerns of legality, send a PM.

You would be surprised. There are people who's FFLs told them that it was legal to build up. At the shoot n q there was a guy with a stag lower (not made before the ban) with an open magwell and pistol grip. He was informed that his rifle was illegal and left the range.

Both of our opinions are personal since they aren't fact . I don't think double checking that the gun is registered makes the OP look like an idiot. If someone came right out saying "THATS ILLEGAL!! THATS AN ASSAULT WEAPON, FIX THE MAG!!" they would just look like an idiot, but simply asking if it is registered doesn't seem like a problem to me. Just another shooter concerned about another.

Regarding sending a PM, generally if someone is going to post a picture of an illegally configured rifle they are new here and their setting is not set to notify them of a new PM. Its not very noticable that you have a new PM otherwise .
                            Please, calm down.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for keeping gun owners out of jail, but I'd hate getting called out in public everytime I post a picture.
