AZ Storage unit idea
Collapse

Self-storage places in rural AZ are cheap, but even at $50 a month it's an expensive proposition. $600 a year, $6000 in 10 years is a lot to expend just for gun storage. -
I would never, ever, EVER store any guns (or anything else) in a storage unit that isn't in my name. Even if it was my best friend's storage unit. He misses one payment and all your crap gets auctioned to the highest bidder. No thank you.Comment

OP, I think you have a good idea, but the reality is lacking. This is your first post, you are unknown, so I doubt anyone is going have sufficient trust in you to encourage them to drive to your place in Arizona to store their firearms. Since you live in CA, how are you going to handle a request when someone wants to pick up their firearms, when you are unavailable to go to AZ.sigpicComment

If oyu guys want a true secure site that has insurance rated the same as Lloyds of London I cna refer oyu to my off site storage. I don;t know the retail rate but it is something like $100-120/year per gun. Bulk storage could be negotiated. They have 24hr armed guards and a 6000lb main vault door. It is not some converted warehouse or public storage. They have regulatory standards that exceed most bank security protocols. You can store guns, paintings, metals, etc. Payment can be made by cash and the insurance coverage does not require listing items. I only know of maybe 4 storage sites like this in the US and this one is north of Phoenix.sigpic

And how do you access your belongings if, say, there's civil unrest, the power is out, and the staff have all bailed? If oyu guys want a true secure site that has insurance rated the same as Lloyds of London I cna refer oyu to my off site storage. Sorry, I just really don't like security that is so tight that I need other people's help to access my own stuff.Last edited by CandG; 11-10-2016, 11:58 AM.Comment

I like to live in the real world. When I leave for a week or so on vacation chances are the world will not fall apart while I am at Legoland for a few days. Sure there can be an earthquake in Ca that would keep oyu form oyur guns but anyone with half a brain does not put all thier eggs in one basket. If oyu have all oyur guns, money, important papers in a safe at your house you are no safer than putting them all in a paid location. One DV call is all it takes ot clear that safe out.
I am pretty sure there wil be plenty of signs leading up to the apocolypse. If YOU plan on waiting until everyone else is running around with guns then maybe you would have issues. The people I know are well prepared with many bug out locations.sigpic

I said civil unrest, not apocalypse. We haven't had an apocalypse since Noah (or, if you aren't Christian, then since never). So we probably aren't having one any time soon, either. But there's civil unrest all the time. I shouldn't need to mention that it's happening in multiple places in CA as I type this. Anyways, I agree that all your eggs in one basket, any basket, is never a good idea. I just wanted to give people something to think about before they store all their anti-tyranny weaponry behind doors that they may not be able to open themselves unless they ask someone nicely.I like to live in the real world. Security through obscurity is always my preference. People won't steal something if they don't know it exists.Comment

There is no civil unrest going on. It is a bunch of little cry babies and the PC government is tolerating it like a parent lets a brat cry itself out instead of giving it what it wants.I said civil unrest, not apocalypse. When the police start firing at will or the national guard is called in then you can call it civil unrest.sigpic

Wouldn't be surprised if it already is in places like S.F. They've had riots not so long ago for various stupid reasons. There is no civil unrest going on. I'd have to agree with you. Lots of strange crap going on, just smash and grab or bust a garage door looking for anything.

Let me revise my statement... people won't steal something if they can't FIGURE OUT it exists.
Yes, if a burglar happens upon a safe in your closet, they'll steal it. That's not what I meant by obscurity. I meant, a burglar isn't very likely to steal the bucket of ashes next to your charcoal bbq that you keep an ammo can full of pistols buried in. A burglar isn't very likely to start pulling up your carpet to look for a floor vault. Etc, etc. That's what I meant by obscurity.Comment
