    Cerakote AR15

    Wanting to cerakote my rifle.

Really like Krpytek patterning, in the Nomad variety. Anyone have experience with Cerakote and specifically Kryptek patterns? Would love to see some pics of your guns!

I just bought a War Sport LVOA which I believe is Cerakoted; it's my first gun with that type of finish and it is stunning. Just beautiful.

        I'd highly recommend it.

That's all I've got for ya though.

Not sure if you asking to Cerakote yourself or have some one do it for you. If your looking for for someone, their is a guy in San Jose that does great work. He did a bunch of my 80% Lowers for a great price. They turned out great. Here is the thread that shows some of his work. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1243922 Scroll down to post 26 and down. His name is SAGISI.

Thanks Matrixmadman! Just did Kryptek the other day. Just a simple 2 color without any of the fades. Friend wanted to have a custom look but not over the top look at me kryptek look. Photo not the best but it shows how clean my stencil work is.

Unfortunately Cerakote is not offered yet in a rattle can. I use a Iwata LPH80 spray gun and for smaller detail I use a Iwata HPCS eclipse airbrush.

The stencils were cut out on my plotter. I could cut some and send them to you for a small fee.

I do Kryptek quite a bit, to do it right takes a lot of work, and is very time consuming, but the results are great-

Thanks for the offer. I'm not quite ready to attempt Kryptek, but I'll keep it in mind.

Duracoat has always been available with a sort of aerosol attachment bottle system thingy and it worked ok. I'm sure the actual spray cans will probably work better. I've used Duracoat in the past and had acceptable results, it's still certainly not as good as Cerakote, but for the DIY person, it's worth looking into.

The thing that gets most people, I believe, is the prep work. To get any sort of durable finish, I mean one that lasts, doesn't chip or peal, it's all in the prep work. Parts have to be taken all th way down, all fasteners, roll pins etc removed, properly de-greased, media blasted, soaked in an appropriate solvent, flashed off in an oven to get that deep down oil out, soaked again, and flashed again until it's all gone. If a gun has already been used, it can be a lot of work just to get it ready to paint.

If you are doing just a single straight color, the prep work should easily take 2-3 times longer than the actual painting.
