    Bain & Davis is gone

Bain & Davis, the last of the mom n' pop gunshops, is gone. The storefront now says "Oscar's Gunworks". Cassie and the guys were the best.

UPDATE: Sounds like I may have gone off "half-cocked". Folks are saying that Oscar was an employee at B&D, and that the old crew is still there. I need to stop by and check it out.

UPDATE: Okay, I stopped by. Pete, Jeff, Dave (younger Dave), and Oscar were there. Plenty of new and used guns in stock. I wound up buying a 2nd Gen Colt SAA in 357 ;^)

"Oscar's Gunworks" sounds like a mom 'n' pop to me.

      Confused
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Oscars is just a new name for a place that is just a shadow of it's former self. Their work and shop sucks now. I'd highly recommend not giving them any work.

Something weird has been going on. Why would they change names after like 50 years or so?

I recall Bain and Davis (San Gabriel) when I lived in Pasadena in the '80's.
          Great shop back then.

i had an absolutely terrible experience at bain and davis...

took a revolver in for a trigger job and cyclinder chamfer - was returned the revolver with ftf and fte problems. took it back, was charged $$ again and problems persisted. this shop is not recomended - maybe the new owners will have better customer service...

i understand that things can't always be perfect the first time. i tried multiple types of ammo and problem remained. the 2nd trip to the shop should have been free of charge / or at least fixed the issue...

this is just my personal experience.

i don't have a clue as to how the business was run the last year or so of it's operation, but the Bain and Davis that i remember from my visits previous to that will be missed. it was a good shop for the working man and the layaway terms given to me had flexibility that many/most shops don't make available to the buyer. i have some very nice pistols and older S&W revolvers that i picked up from their 'used handguns display case' at very reasonable cost. if my budget was tight and i really wanted a specific handgun, Pete would find a way to put me in the driver's seat.

Are these the guys that came up with the .357/44 Bain & Davis cartridge?

                    .

But putting more weight behind not being a mom-and-pop that Bain and Davis ever did. No offense; I like Pete and have been buying from Bain & Davis since the mid 1990s. But they were always kind of a closet, non-stocking kind of store. At least this new "Oscar's" seems to be going pro on the website start-up and modernizing the store.
