    80 grains SMK?

For all reloaders, are you able to load the .224 80 grains SMK? Because, once the OAL is set to 2.255 I am able to push the bullet into the case. The max OAL for a .223 is 2.260 (Magazine limit).

The 80 gr SMK does not get loaded to mag length. Don't even try.

This is why you should have, and read, a reloading manual with correct information. Had you somehow fired the round, you would have had a BIG surprise.

The Sierra 77gr BTHP Match King is as heavy as you can go for 5.56 and still load to magazine length.

Also, the Hornady 75gr A-Max cannot be loaded to magazine length either.

Sinclair Intl sells a single shot follower for AR-15 magazines:

Personally, I'd get the SLED, or Bob Sled:

Sinclair also sells this item. I'd rather get a SLED rather than alter one of my 20 or 30 rounders.

Thank you for all your inputs. I will purchase the modified mag for the 80 grain since my new AR was made for heavy bullets.

            Is this for an OLL?

If it is just use the regular mag and feed the cartridge into the chamber through the ejection port. Otherwise you'll have to change the mag to a normal one for regular use.

The modified mags never caught on because people would have problems with them.

If you're ONLY going to single load, then get the BOB Sled. Most High Power shooters (except cheap me) use them now for single loading the heavy bullets for the slow prone stage and off hand. It works.
