    Selling Registered AW

    Hi, everybody--
Well I've met the girl of my dreams and we're getting married. I need to raise some funds quickly, so I think cleaning out the gun safe of rifles I never shoot might be the way to go.

I have a registered Bulgarian SLR-95 AK-type, and I know I cannot sell it within the state, but for those of you who have sold your AWs to an out-of-state buyer, what is the procedure for doing so?

If the lower is not "listed" you might have additional options. RAWs can be deregistered if features/magazine disconnect are removed (again, only for non-listed lowers), then it becomes a standard rifle.

Someone else will have to chime in for the out-of-state sale. My guess (note: it's just a guess) is that you only have to worry about physical transfer since you cannot just ship it, but other than that it should be a simple FFL-FFL transaction.

Unless you personally transport it out of state to sell it, you will have to go thru a CA FFL with an assault weapons permit.

Yep, and there's only a couple of them in Kalifornia.

          Arsenal SLR (all)

So I think featureless is not an option.

Thanks, everybody. Guess I'll call some shops and see if I can find one with the proper license. Otherwise I'll just keep it.

See post #3 in this thread for the out of state deal.

If the OP takes it out of state to sell it, it still has to go thru an FFL in that state because he is not a resident of that state. This is Federal law. It also cannot be a CA FFL to other state FFL transfer because CA law requires any CA FFL that handles an AW to have an AW permit. And as mentioned above, FFL's with AW permits are very few and far between.

I would be interested in it if you are willing to travel to Reno. I am going to assume that it is still in ban configuration with the thumbhole stock and no provision for the cleaning rod? We can just do a deal at my local gun store.

If you're in socal, give Evans in Orange a call. I think they have a permit.

why the FUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK would you sell a RAW firearm in the state of California.

Just blows my mind... Sell everything else.

Yeah, I don't think it makes much sense to sell a RAW, "love" sure results in people doing funny things.

What does it take for an FFL to get the permit? Seems to me like it'll be more in demand with a lot of new AWs next year.

Yup, it also blows my mind how many people are upset that they are now getting the choice to register new AWs.
