    Traveling With Firearms

I've been in and around firearms now and again over my life, but it has only been in the last couple years that I've become a firearm owner. I have some questions about traveling with firearms.

At the end of next week we will be taking a road trip to visit family and I will be bringing my guns with me to spend some time shooting with the boys. On one of the days of the trip we plan to stay overnight in a motel somewhere in Nevada. I don't really want to leave my guns in the car overnight for fear of them being stolen, especially by some criminal. However, I'm thinking there may be "issues" with bringing the guns into my motel room? Anyone have experience or advice they could lend?

By not having problems, I suppose you mean you have taken your guns into your motel rooms?

Take the guns with you into the hotel room. It is perfectly legal to have them. Don't ask permission from the Motel Manager (why advertise), just bring them in with the rest of your stuff. A motel room is essentially the same as your home or apartment for the time that you are renting it. Do not however leave the guns (or any other valuables) in the room and go off to a restaurant or shopping. The maids have access to all the rooms. The manager has access to all the rooms. And not everyone is a good honest citizen.

If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.

when in doubt, keep it locked and unloaded. have a good trip!

motel room is your room, you can do as you want. Don't leave them in the car, its dark, cold and useless out there.

I travel pretty often to for work. I have never had a problem bringing my guns into my hotel/motel room. Just make sure to NEVER leave them in there. At first, the guys I work with thought I was weird for always bringing them with me when we left the hotel but they got used to it.

I prefer to throw something over my guns when bringing them in and out of my house or anywhere else. Why advertise.

remember, even in kalifornia, where ever you are at a single point, that is technically your home.

at a campsite? the tent is your home.

so at a motel/hotel? that is your home. so unless the place has a displayed sign saying no firearms, etc, you are GTG...

just like you are at home...

Yes, as long as you pay for the room and staying, it is your domain until you check out in my opinion.

I had an email once from someone who was refused service (no clean towels, no clean sheets, no cleaning) for the whole of his stay in a S.F. hotel because he left a brand new magazine still in its original packaging in plain sight. Nothing else was there at the time, just the mag.

What's known only to you won't cause problems.

Using that protocol, I've had my Glock in many a hotel room. I use the safe if there is one, or take the Glock with me when I leave the room.

You can also open carry loaded handguns in Nevada. Just something to keep in mind.

This isn't much of an issue in Nevada, its one of those states where its pretty much assumed you own firearms.
