I can't think of a single agency in the country using these.

I know alot of guys in Iraq and afghanistan have been buying them as privately owned sidearms, though.

    I have a 45 tactical model.

Just need to find a holster that will accomodate the pistol with the light attached.

I've never heard of any in CA.....I did read somewhere that the dept of agriculture or something like that issues the XD-40 as their sidearm.

I had an XD-40 as my CCW carry weapon for awhile. It was trouble free for the first 400-500 rounds or so. Then I had constant FTF and FTE problems with 4 or 5 different ammos I had tried (some were the same ones I used with no problems for those first 400-500 rounds).....

It turned out to be a common problem with the design of the 40 cals....I think I got it sorted out after working on the gun...but I never really trusted it again. So now I carry a Glock 27....it's smaller and way easier to carry anyways.

Both of my brother in laws have XD- 9 subcompacts and have never had any problems....

I might be going to the police academy in january and was wondering if i can use my xd-40 or do I have to use something they recomend? And as a peace officer, can one choose what weapon he wants to carry? I would hate to buy another gun in the same caliber.

I believe they issue you what they want you to have, in most places. And then, if you want to use a different pistol, they permit you to use a personal weapon IF AND ONLY IF the department is cool with it. I know recently in San Diego, they decided it was ok for officers to use 1911's... I'm not sure if it was sheriff's dept or one of the city PD's though.
