So went to the range today to try a weapon that I recently turned featureless, it shot great, but that is not the issue, what struck me (and its silly), is just amazing how easy we as gun owners have been conditioned to accept things.

So I load up three rounds (6.8spc 90gr jhp) into my mag, fire off all three, good group from what I can see in the scope, I decide to fire two more to make it a 5 rnd group.
So I need to drop the mag to load two more.

I start to look around on the bench for a tool to drop the mag, after what seemed like forever I realize its featureless and can use my finger.

While this may sound trivial, it goes to show how I, as a gun owner have been conditioned to think this is ok, and in the immortal words of John Lennon, "I'm not the only one" I'm sure.

I know this is petty and stupid, but it still struck me as how easily we as gun owners comply

I'm not from California so none of this will ever be acceptable to me. I don't comply because I accept it, I comply because I know one of two things will happen:

1) I have to wait for it to play out in the courts because I'm not willing to lose my gun rights for life for being stubborn, or more likely...

2) As soon as my son graduates high school in 2020 we're packing up and getting the hell out of here. I'd move tomorrow if I could but my wife's family is here and she won't leave while her grandparents are still alive (I had her on the east coast for 22 years, we moved back so she could have a little more time with them. They raised her).

I already bastardized my rifles with bullet buttons so won't go featureless. They'll never forgive me (my rifles, that is). I use a thumb ring with a tab on it so I can drop mags just the same as I ever did - I'm a lefty so always dropped my mags with my thumb anyway.

But I understand what you're saying. The idea is to not be so complacent that it becomes normal. These restrictions should never be seen as acceptable. Don't let them condition your thinking.

I'm stuck in this state as long as the father in law is alive. Have everything to build what should be a really nice AR but with everything that's on the horizon here, I'm questioning if I even want to do it

Looking at how well and how hard they're enforcing already existing laws about firearms, I don't think anyone will end up in jail. They'll take what you have and give you a ticket for a misdemeanor, but they won't be throwing folks in jail. All of that is liberal tough-talk to get you to give up your guns voluntarily.

Looking at how well and how hard they're enforcing already existing laws about firearms, I don't think anyone will end up in jail. They'll take what you have and give you a ticket for a misdemeanor, but they won't be throwing folks in jail. All of that is liberal tough-talk to get you to give up your guns voluntarily.

I know now I see all kinds of weapons at gun ranges that aren't legal.
I think these laws are and have been for the city dwellers, as I really only see them in effect in gun stores up here in the sticks.


I will not comply. Ive been moving my weapons out of state, and the few I have with me here prior to my exit of California will be kept disassembled.

Having lived in Az, and been deeply intrenched in the gun culture/industry in 94 I am really surprised at seeing how many people here actually follow the laws. In Texas and Az people scoffed at the AWB when it came out. No one complied, the law enforcement didn't care to enforce them unless you were committing a real crime at the time.

Its more a propaganda tool than anything. New culture gun kids on internet forums are running around freaking out that things have to be registered AWB or featureless or you will do ten years in prison.
Fact is, its those people that hurt us. If no one registered these guns, then the system would be considered a failure and would help us in further legislation in the future.

The fact that there will be more Californians lining up to willfully register their sporting rifles as ASSAULT WEAPONS rather than sign petitions to defeat this law amazes me, and confirms I am in the wrong state.

The way they'll get you is on the way home from the range. They'll pull you over because they don't like the way you made a lane change. They'll look in your car and see a loose empty case, or a flyer for a match you picked up at the range. They'll ask if you have any guns in the car. No matter how you answer they'll ask for consent to a search. You'll refuse and they'll detain you based on what they saw and call in for a warrant. They'll find your "illegal" gun and throw you in jail.

Or any one of a thousand variants involving your home, your neighbors, etc. You ain't in AZ any more, BTDT.
