When I was kid, about 12, we lived on a farm. My best friend lived in town in a subdivision.
My friend would come over and we would go down to the creek with other farms boys and shoot targets. I had a single shot bolt action rifle. We had a great time. This was in 1962.
Somehow my best friend's parents found out I had a gun. It wasn't a secret. As far as my parents were concerned it was just a normal activity. My best friend's dad said that his son was no longer going to visit me ever again. My mom called him and after a long discussion things were settled and the dad was reassured that we were responsible gun owners and safety was a priority.
I almost lost a best friend. Fifty five years later we are still close friends. He never became a gun owner, but he respects gun ownership and supports the right of owning firearms.
