    Muzzle Compensator question regarding law

Hi CalGun members. I'm looking for advice or coaching on something I've ran across yesterday in trying to purchase a muzzle compensator. I placed an order yesterday from one of my favorite places to shop "Optics Planet" for a Strike Industries King Comp for my AR. A few hours after placing the order I received an email stating the following "We have carefully reviewed the details of your order and some of the products you ordered are subject to United States federal, state and/or local government laws and regulations regarding the domestic sale of restricted products. We apologize, but at this time we are not able to proceed with processing your order as submitted. In order to ensure that we comply with all applicable laws and regulations we are forced to remove the following product(s) from your order:
    ================================================== =================
Strike Industries King Compensator 223, BLACK SI KingComp-223 $39.95"
My question is is it unlawful or illegal to order a device such as this in state of California / San Diego? I'm dumbfounded by the email. I know flash hiders are not legal in CA but I thought Comps are fine. Did I miss out on some information? Like to hear from the experts.

This is my first posting so apologize if this is in the wrong forum section.
    Thanks in advance for responses.

Optics planet just being stupid and not really understanding laws. Just order it somewhere else. Are you trying to go featureless, because this break/compensator would be easily considered a flash hider by CA

Flash hiders are legal in CA. Just not on a featureless rifle.

Thanks for the responses Gunntz and beanz2. Switching out existing compensator that's all. Someone at Iron Sight let me tried their AR the other day that had this on his rifle. The felt recoil and muzzle rise was much better than what I had on my existing so I wanted to try one. After the message from Optics Planet ended up buying from eBay instead. I was puzzle by their response.

I stopped shopping at Optics Planet (and all their affiliates, like DVOR)when they quoted non-existent law as to why they wouldn't ship me a .22LR upper.

There was even an email exchange where I politely explained the law to them, they chose to be stupid (or as they put it, 'extra-cautious). This sort of thing just thrills the California overlords, it just causes me to choose vendors.

I've enjoyed several range sessions with that .22LR upper I acquired immediately afterward from Midway. They chose to not be stupid.

In fact many generic AR15s you buy in stores here in California such as S&W, Ruger, Colt, etc come with flash hiders.

Why not just spend your money at one of the local gun shops? I bet they'll even install it for free if you buy it from them.

I ordered the same thing a few days, and received the same email from them too. Nowhere in their site description of the Strike Industries King Comp, states this is a flash hider, but they still used that as an excuse not to ship it nonetheless.

After receiving the email, I tried to contact them via Live Chat on their website. I forgot the name of the person chatting, but wow, they literally took 10 minutes each time to respond to a question or statement. After a couple questions and just waiting around for at least 30 minutes, I got fed up and left the chat. Piss poor customer service on their end.

Anyways, I ended up ordering it from another site and it's already on the way.

They probably don't even have it in stock like most of what they sell.

I've had a few successful orders with them, but most end up back ordered or cancelled because they don't actually have it in stock even with their website says they do.

They have always been and will continue to managed very poorly. I have more faith in Botach when I press the order button.
