    Armor lvl 3 question.

I bought 2 sets of armor but i want to test one set by shooting it with a .308 ball once on each plate, but will i still be able to use it after? Or will it be weaker and not recommended to wear after?

How many shots can it withstand before it is compromised?

What type of armor? AR550 or something?

I'd expect any hits to weaken it in that area if it's steel. It's hard to know how much.

What type of armor? Ceramic or steel? If steel then you'll be fine. I personally would buy a "test" plate to shoot.

I personally would not reuse body armor that has taken hits.

I wouldn't use the steel plates after testing , especially if it has an anti-spall coating.

Use the plates to test different ammo and record the tests.

Buy a couple cheap level III 6x6" side plates to test on. I think Spartan Armor Systems has the set of 2 for $60 iirc.

What does the manufacturer say? I've never seen one say's to keep using armor after it has taken hit's. They all can take multiple hit's, but every one I've used advises to replace it after it has taken hit's ASAP. Nature of the beast when it does what it is designed for it starts to wear, and loose integrity.

Steel will take many hits to the same point. The Spall liner is probably done after 2 hits though. Training or testing only after that, as spall will cause a LOT of small wounds.

Ceramic will take multiple hits across the plate, but is complete garbage once you can get back to a safe place. (Ok, I'd rather take my chances with a shot up ceramic than a t shirt... but the plate is still trash)

You could still use it for training, but never again in the real world.

If you aren't sure about the protective capabilities of the armor, don't buy it to begin with. Leave the testing to the manufacturer or youtube gunners.
