Rudy Project Glasses worth the cost?

Hi all. I just priced up some prescription Rudy Project shooting glasses. I'm looking to get rid of the "double glasses" when shooting, i.e. my regular prescriptions + shooting glasses. Granted, as priced these glasses could potentially double as sun glasses. The final price: close to $800! this is with the photochromic lenses. Even without those the price is only about $100 less. My regular Rx sunglasses were about $600 Maui Jim's and are pretty good sunglasses. Can anyone speak to the quality of the glasses and whether they are worth the price of admission? Or should I just go with the regular lenses and keep them just for shooting? Thanks in advance!

See if you can get Gunnar locally.

I run Rudy Project glasses with the Rx insert behind the primary lens. my prescription is too strong to be able to cut the primary lens to be Rx.

as for quality, I really like them. I don't see why they couldn't be used for daily use.

I used www.decot.com. Less than half the price of the other brand though they don't look as cool.

I have the WileyX ANSI Z87.1 rated prescription glasses that look and perform great - http://www.wileyx.com/Tactical
The 100% cost was picked up by my PPO - Blue Cross RX insurance. Maybe this is an option for you?

Yes. I've been using mine for close to 10 years now. I've used others in the past including Oakleys and several other well known ones. IMO, Rudy glasses are some of the best in build and optical quality. I use Rx on my glasses.

              It's insane what glasses cost!

I put the quality of Rudy on par with Oakley. I'd be happy with either one. I have a pair of prescription clear Rydon shooting glasses. Very happy with them.

BTW...make absolute sure you're getting RP lenses if that's important to you...which I know is. If you buy a set of frames from a random eye place and have them put the prescription into it, there's no guarantee that they will be using RP glass. If push comes to shove, once you have your prescription, you can order direct from Rudy...that way you can be sure.

I have a really hard time paying for glasses that are there to deflect flying metal. I found these 3M ones at Home Depot that are designed to be worn under ear protection, which makes them very comfortable to wear. They also make them in smoke. $10 each and when they get scratched I'll buy a new one. I can get more than 10 sets for what the sets above cost.

What is the benefit (other than if you need RX) that these offer?

I like them. With insurance, I was still out of pocket over $300. I have the photochromic lenses as well. It was worth it for me.

How about buying the glasses at a discount (see the deals forum for a code) and getting lenses?

Thanks for all of the replies. I will look into some of the suggestions but good to know there is some value for the cost and not just hype.

http://www.zennioptical.com/744412-p...rim-frame.html I got a pair of those which are't officially safety glasses but have pretty good coverage. My prescription is fairly strong so the lenses are thick enough that I'm not worried about impact resistance.

Well take the whole "value" thing with a grain of salt. Go google the 60 Minutes expose on the eye glass industry. Basically, there's two or three big companies that own/control all the brands and artificially inflate the price on what is actually a relatively cheap commodity to produce. But they got you by the shorthairs unless you can find something you like and are ok buying from CostCo or Walmart...whose frame selections really suck.

i doesnt look like cost is an issue for you, but if it were...

                            this - $25 https://www.amazon.com/Smith-Optics-...+system+insert

                            plus this - $ 18 https://www.amazon.com/Smith-Optics-...tside+the+wire

take the insert to Costco for RX lenses - about 50 bucks.

Nice little RX system for under 100, if you can get over the dorkiness of goggles. I like mine.
