My Farmers agent told me that they cover $2500 for theft and 100% if they are lost in a fire.

State Farm Agent Recommendation?

OP,
As many have discussed here many insurers have low limits built into the homeowners policy. If you let your agent know that you would like to increase the limits of insurance, most will do so. Typically you do not need to provide serial numbers and description prior to policy inception unless they are creating a schedule for your items similar to jewelry.
As a property adjuster who works for a major carrier, i will once again reiterate that in ALL insurance policies, there is a duties section. This section the the duties that the INSURED has when they file a claim. IN ALL POLICIES REGARDLESS OF CARRIER, you have the duties to provide proof of loss, and provide proof of ownership AFTER A LOSS. Typically the proof of loss is a police report or a fire report as previously stated. Proof of ownership could be a picture of the gun.
This is why it's a good idea to keep records of your purchases in case you sustain a covered loss.
There are no "gun friendly" insurance companies per say, my best advice to you is READ YOUR POLICY IN FULL. By paying your premiums, you are agreeing to a binding contract which is your policy as almost all policies regardless of carriers have exclusions and special limitsComment

I have a separate policy through SF on my firearms. I believe it falls under "sporting goods" so in theory I could add other expensive items like some of my knives if I wanted to pay for the added coverage.
They asked for model, color, serial #, and my best guess at purchase date.
Since I not old enough to own anything the government doesn't already know about I don't really care about keeping my info a secret.Comment

^^^Bingo^^^ Same with Travelers. At least for Homeowners policyThat's really weird they have specific amounts for firearms.
Safeco considers firearms just regular personal property, like TV's, computers, appliances, furniture, etc. So if you have $100,000 in personal property coverage, well you have up to $100,000 of firearms insurance.Only slaves don't need guns

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

I've had a personal State Farm policy for 30+ years. They cover everything I own personally) They are the easiest to work with regarding coverage. I've also found them the most accommodating when filing/filling a claim (vs Farmers, Wawanesa or Travelers in regardings to property insurance). Avoid Allstate & Safeco. Both over-priced and their policies are purposely written without clarity (vague exclusions).
As for choosing an agent, find one with at least 10 years experience who writes an abundance of personal property/liability policies. Stay away from an agent whose book of business is mostly commercial policies..
