Suggestions on for a HD rifle, not an AR

I am looking for a HD rifle and play toy. I was looking for a Marlin 1894c levergun 38/357mag. but I am giving up, can't find one.
I could find a 30/30 lever however I wanted a low recoil, low cost ammo rifle.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks Bill

Lever Gun seem like good choice. Legacy Sports imports Rossi made Puma guns. They are made in 357 mag caliber.

    Good luck.
'Cuz big holes are easier to see.

You can correct my spelling and grammar error anytime.
I welcome it. How else would I learn.

      M1 Carbine, Marlin Camp 9, Ruger PC9.

Not as cheap as some of the lever actions, but the 9mms would be cheap enough to shoot that the cost could be evened out after a few cases of ammo.

Rossi 92 in 357 Mag. I have one in 44 Mag and like it a lot. M-1 Carbine or SKS is a good choice also in my opinion.

AK with monsterman grip. Very handy.

None at your local Big 5? Don't they typically stock Marlin and Puma leverguns?

If not, Buds has a decent stock of Pumas right now:

Cheap ol' SKS works for me.

Look around and you can still find some cheap Yugos. 7.62x39mms have gone up in recent years, but still relatively cheap if you only buy Wolfs.

Hey, Devil Dog, Good to see you here. By no means I am the best guy with guns. I just work around guns everyday. I just suggested some fun guns to shoot without a lot of recoil and with decent accuracy.

By the way, my office just installed a Smithy machine in the tool room. As soon as it runs, experiments will be under way. I have several projects in mind.

Fwiw, I've seen a lot of leverguns at the range come in with really knarly jams, some requiring disassembly and/or three hands and tools to clear. Beats me how this was 'the gun that won the West...' I guess if the other guys have worse?

Live rounds stuck in the weirdest places, etc. Don't know if it's user error, short stroking, ammo, or what... The worse cases we have to refer the customer to a gunsmith.

I'm sure 99% of them run fine. Just doesn't inspire a lot of confidence for HD use. Play toy, sure....

                      I'd go with a G.I. M1 Carbine...

I had a Rossi 92 in 44 Mag. As I was shooting it, I had nothing but the problem (sights way off, could not adjust enough, magazine walks out of the mount, case split etc.). I contacted the Interarms and explained the problem. I sent it back and a week later, I had a brand new rifle delivered to my door. The new rifle was great. I still have it and like to shoot it. No problem whatsoever. If you look at the rifle made recently, you will see a lot of difference in quality compared to old ones.
