    SureFire Ep4

I feel like I was sorta con'd into buying them at the recommendation of someone. I went to the range and wore them double plugged with the filters in. My left ear is ring ever so slightly. I feel like regular foam plugs or peltor combat arms would have done the same. I will add the attenuation is good, you can hear your environment good without dealing with the pain associated with a gun blast/discharge. So it does work. I was at a outdoor range.

maybe the ep4's ear baffles aren't big enough?

ear protection seems like it is a very individual choice. some works well with some people, but sucks with other people.

Double up. Ringing is never good.

Basically its a over priced cone shaped ear plug with a noise filter, I feel like the flange doesn't allow for a good seat. Perhaps the larges are too big.

Either way, I'd suggest something like a Peltor Combat Arms. Prob seats way better, as it goes in without relying on a flange.

I was. I had Peltor Shotgunner earmuffs on too.

i have these for my motorcycle riding and they work fine?

maybe your ear canal is bigger than the ep4's ear baffle part is? i believe i remember that the ear flange part is all the same size, and when you select "small medium large" it is for the black part that fits into the outer ear area to hold it in place.

I've been using these for years. There are 3 different rating versions as well. The highest are significantly better.

They can shift around a bit and I find myself re-adjusting from time to time. I feel the sound suppression is the same as foam but they are more comfortable and speaking is easier. Both hearing and speaking without that underwater feel.

If I wasn't able to get them through work for free, I'd probably stick with foams. Which I get for free.
Muffs are 100% out of the equation. No idea how people shoot rifles with them.

                  1. Wear muffs
                  2. Shoot rifle.

I got my mediums in the mail. They seem to fit much better, essentially same protection. Just more comfort. Their instructions for measurement were wrong, it was indicated I was over 1". Turns out I'm a medium.

                    I used these

                    Correct ones?

The EP7 are the only ones I will wear without doubling up on a static line or match. During a rifle class I will double up no matter what.

+1 for EP7's memory foam with filter to allow conversation to get through. I have the EP3 too but tend to use the 7's.

The Surefire EP's are perfect for outdoor shooting. Slim, and doesn't get in the way of your cheek weld. It also works well since sound can actually escape into the surrounding air, unlike an indoor range where the sound will bounce around the walls. Indoor ranges = full muffs, maybe even doubled up with ear plugs if the gun is loud enough. But outdoors, the EP's are perfect.

Some people argue that the EP's still suck because sound can still get into your ear through the surrounding area of the ear; plausible and makes sense to me, but I haven't had any noticeable hearing loss yet when using EP's for outdoors only.
