Thought you'd be interested to know, this news report was from 2003. The Country Alliance organised huge marches then to protest against a fox hunting ban, which later became law in 2004.

The two guys shot by farmer Tony Martin were gypsies (considered a minority group in the UK), who had raided his farm a number of times before. The surviving gypsy, Brendan Fearon tried to sue Martin for a six figure settlement (with his legal fees being paid for by "legal aid", or in other words the tax-payer) claiming the bird shot he had been hit by, in the butt, when Martin fired on him, had caused him to be impotent, and unable to make love to his wife since. The Sun newspaper ran a collection for Martin's legal fees, but as so many people supported Martin, The Sun ended up with hundreds of thousands of Pounds in donations from the public. Fearon's case was thrown out of court. In the meantime, while Martin was in prison, the gypsy community sought revenge by breaking into Martin's farmhouse and stripping it clean, leaving nothing, not even the roof tiles. Martin was freed in 2003 after serving 3 years of a life sentence, because public opinion was so strong on his side.

It's a tragic story of where a victim of a crime, lost everything, because he stood up to criminals.
