    Roommates and Safe Storage

I'd like some input from the community on a couple things:

1.) I live in a rental house with 3 roommates. After a few subtle conversations, it's become clear that our views on firearms differ. Given their disapproval, is there any reason I should disclose my having a pistol for self-defense? My lease doesn't specify anything about this.

2.) My options for safely storing and securing a handgun are limited as I can't alter my room or bolt things down. What are some good storage solutions? Keeping in mind theft deterrence, roommates and guests of roommates.

    Additional tips? Thanks in advance.

Are we talking a single pistol, or are we talking 10 AR's, a shotgun, and a bolt gun?

      1. Do you actually know these people, or are they just random roommates from craigslist? If you don't know them, then no. You have no idea what kind of bull**** hysterical antis will do.

      2. Bolt down a lockbox anyway(probably large enough for more than your pistol as well). They don't need to know you've got a box bolted into the floor or against the wall in a closet. It can be patched/covered later.

      3. It's not relevant since you'd need to keep it locked and unloaded when transporting it from your home anyway. It's rifles that do not always have a requirement to be locked.

Keep your gun stashed in your room and keep your mouth shut. No good could come out of some these weak minded libs knowing your packing.

          1. What does your lease say?

          2. At the very least put a cable lock through your bed frame or something like that.

Is the house cement slab or wood floor? In the past I have run a cable through my bed frame like someone else posted. When I had a wood floor with carpet I drilled a couple holes in the same gun vault that was cabled previously screwed it room the floor and put a nightstand over it. Couldn't even tell it was there.

You are under no more obligation to report your ownership of a handgun in that house than you are a dildo. Unless you signed a lease that specifically says "no guns", you are in the clear. Don't worry about it. Keep your mouth shut and it will be fine.

Do you own your bedroom furniture?
Worst case, bolt a lockbox into the nightstand or dresser.
Maybe modify one of the drawers with a false bottom so the box is not visible if someone just opens it.
A Gunvault Nano 3-wheel combination is what I use in my car.

I think marksmandowntown is onto something. Give your roomies a stern lecture about how if anybody touches one of your many dildos you're gonna go Wu-tang and destroy the house. They'll probably go way out of their way to avoid you. Problem solved until you find a new place.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

Depends on what part of California. They may get interested and go looking for the dildos.

OP, I would recommend to get a small safe/lockbox that will also hold other valuable items like laptop, tablet, etc.. Bolt it to the floor or wall, that can be patched when you leave. If your roommates ask, just say that you want to secure your valuables and leave it at that. I think they would understand that and you aren't disclosing that you have a firearm.

                              1. No.
                              2. I like the Gun Vault mini vault and use a security cable (should come with it) in lieu of bolting down. Also works great to just throw it in a bag when you're on the go.
                              3. I keep all my stuff locked up during transport and out of sight.
