Depends on whether they are in a parking lot for cash or at an ffl.

Inb4 "the search function is your friend!" crowd.

No more than 5 handguns per year; the alphabet crew.

The limit in CA is FIVE (5) TRANSACTIONS per year. You may sell as many firearms in those transactions as the purchaser can afford.

Isn't that 5 specifically handgun transfers, and non-handguns are limited to "infrequent" transfers? Or am I misremembering?

It's TRANSACTIONS, not transfers...although in the city of Los Angeles you are limited to one handgun DROS per month, outside of LA it's OK. I've purchased more than one handgun and DROS'ed them together in one PPT Transaction.

Good Question...CA Authorities would likely say YES while other states wouldn't.

Better ...because half the comments in this thread are BS.

Don't be scurd. And you better have more than 100 firearms if you're asking this question. Don't say you have 12 or some ish.

Nobody want's to stop anyone from liquidating a collection, the limits are there to define whether or not you are selling as a business. If I wanted to liquidate 20 guns, I wouldn't hesitate. You're NOT gonna be charged with a crime for selling to many personal weapons.
Most states have a limit of selling 6 cars in a year too....would you worry if you had 10 cars in the back yard to sell? Me either.

Are you saying someone can only make 5 purchase transactions per year?

5 handgun sales (or trades) transfers per year, no limit for each transaction.

No numerical limit on long gun sales, but infrequent so that it appears you are not running an unlicensed sales operation.

                          Penal Code 16730
                          Quote:
                          16730.

                          (a) As used in Section 31815 and in Division 6 (commencing with Section 26500) of Title 4, “infrequent” means:

                          (1) For handguns, less than six transactions per calendar year.

                          (2) For firearms other than handguns, occasional and without regularity.

                          (b) As used in Section 27900, the term “infrequent” shall not be construed to prohibit different local chapters of the same nonprofit corporation from conducting auctions or similar events, provided the individual local chapter conducts the auctions or similar events infrequently. It is the intent of the Legislature that different local chapters, representing different localities, be entitled to invoke the exemption created by Section 27900, notwithstanding the frequency with which other chapters of the same nonprofit corporation may conduct auctions or similar events.

                          (c) As used in this section, “transaction” means a single sale, lease, or transfer of any number of handguns.
