    Now I am somebody!

I was pretty excited, jumping with joy, after weeks of anticipation, today when; the Rifleman, a advertisment for an officially marked 6 pack cooler for re-newing a membership in a seperate envelope, another envelope with benifits to becoming a member, a large envelope containing my life membership certificate, another envelope with pamplets of all sorts, another envelope with my life membership card, stickers, patch and lapel pin showing my life membership status and another large envelope with a welcome from the President...of the N.R.A.!

I caught myself feeling like some kind of a Jerk, reminded me of Steve Martin in "The Jerk", Yelling "The new phone books are here, the new phone books are here! Now I am somebody, big things are going to start happening to me now!"

My NRA member neighbor standing back on his porch watching this spectical, shook his head and mumbled something under his breath about my mailbox never being empty again!

You can contact NRA and have them take you off their phone / mailing list. I only get my American Rifleman magazine and membership renewal notice.

That may explain the amount of email: I don't have a landline at home, I use skype. My skype bill is about $5/year

I'm a loyal member but I wish they spent as much time & money actually doing something for us as they do sending us renewal requests 6 months before our memberships expire (and 5 months, and 4 months, and.... )
Do Life Members get renewal notices? I've been thinking of signing up just on principle but if doing so would stop the junk, or at least redirect it to someone else, that would be a bonus...

Need to spend money to make money and they're in the money raising business.

No renewal but upgrade notices. I get them twice a year and it's always a low rate to bounce to the next level and some kind of gift like a bowie knife. The mailings are avoidable if you ask them to stop.

I just got my life membership package today. They offered a Bowie knife with the $500 upgrade. Don't know how long till I get the knife.

If I had enough pocket change I would get a life membership. But now I just get the 1 year plan and renew.

Hows the American Rifleman Magazine? I still haven't gotten my first issue yet.

AR is worth it just for the Armed Citizen column. Everything else is gravy.

They've pretty much stop sending the solicitation mailings to me since I never buy into them. The American Rifleman magazine is a good read. I find it a bit thin though. I wish they had more articles.

Thats why you need three email accounts. One to use when you sign up for random crap, another for stuff like the NRA and online forums and a personal account.
