Livermore range post "remodel"

Stopped by Livermore rod/gun yesterday to check out the new look as well as some of the new rules. As you can see, big difference from before/after.

New (that I'm aware of rules):

I'll refer to the right side of the check-in shack as the rifle side (30 lanes), the left side (12 lanes) as the pistol side.

Biggest change (maybe a downer to some) is the rifle side is ONLY for shooting while seated. No standing for any reason on that side. Good for safety purposes (number of holes in the steel overhang) as well as newbies sweeping to the left or right...although still possible from a seated position.

No 10 yard target on rifle side, so if you want to shoot pistol (or mixed rifle/pistol) you'll have to shoot at 25 yards seated.

Can shoot shotgun (slugs) at 25 yards and beyond.

New look is sloped, so instead of 4'/6' targets it's now 7' at 25 yards and 5' at 35/50/100 (I think there was still 35 yard).

Seems easier to shoot 50/100 as no berm/weeds are in the way.

Someone else said you can now have cased firearms on the ground next to the bench (new to me, but apparently not a new rule)

Pistol side doesn't allow magnums (so if you want to shoot 44/454/460/500/50AE or any other caliber larger than 44 mag, you have to shoot on the rifle side, seated, and at a min of 25 yards). That's a bit of a bummer to me, but understandable considering the size of the pistol side (benches closer, bigger sound impact I'd imagine).

If you decide not to do only pistol or rile and want to do both, you can split your time between sides (if lanes available), but your 2hr "limit" on weekends doesn't start over.

I probably left something out, but those were the biggest changes I noted.

I like the look of the "new" range, especially for 50/100 yard rifle shooting. But, you be the judge.

Gotta admit since Chabot closed I've been feeling a bit melancholy.

When I see this on the one hand I'm thinking "Good job, way to go Livermore!", but on the other hand I'm wondering how long it will be before Livermore inevitably gets closed down.

Another Chabot transplant here. Sorry dumb question. At Chabot the distances were pre-set (25, 50, 75, 100 yrd) Due to the berm set up at Livermore, how do you set up your targets? I take it you use Livermore's target stand of course, but do you drive them into holes in the ground?

Also are the target stands, prefixed with carboard attached to it, and then you attach your own targets? Or do you have to purchase premade targets from Livermore?

Back at Chabot, I would often purchase two targets. This way when I was done with my series and the range was still hot, I would get my 2nd target ready. When they called cease fire, and it was time to change out my target, I already had a brand new target ready and didn't have to bother with masking tape and staple guns during the change target period.

They have target holders at fixed distances. Back at the shooting benches they have target frames with cardboard backers. You get the appropriate height target frame for the distance you want to shoot. Attach your target to it and set it out at cease fire.

I am not sure how they are working targets these days. If they don't give you enough when you check in, you can buy more.

I think the target frame heights have changed for the new range layout but this picture will give you an idea.
