Secret agent-style weapon Rooms

The Mrs. and I looked at a house for sale that had one. It was a 4000 sq ft ranch style on the side of a steep hill that had some rooms built around a safe room.

There was three-4' sections of book cases on an inside wall. You pushed the middle one straight back into the wall and then the one on the left side slid to the right on a track that had been hidden by the middle unit. Then there was a vault door behind the book case that opened into a 6' x 10' room that had gun racks on one wall and floor to ceiling shelves on another wall.

There was an intercom that ran through the whole house that had cameras that could be accessed from inside the vault. The walls and ceiling were solid, reinforced concrete but there was no way to tell how thick they were. It was a very intriguing set up to say the least.

I was pretty stoked about the place because it even had a detached 3 car garage that had a one bedroom mother-in-law quarters attached. Alas the deal breaker snapped me back into reality when I was almost ready to put an offer then and there. The front of the house, including the living room, and office, part of the formal dining room, and part of a bedroom had settled about a full inch below the rest of the home and there was a 0.5-1.5" gap in the slab. You'd basically have to remove the roof and front wall of the house to fix it. I wish now that I had gotten pics.

I did some work in a house about 15 years ago. It was basically an old farm house that was undergoing extensive remodeling and updates by the new owners. I was looking for an unobtrusive pathway to pull some network and video cabling from the first floor to the second.

There was a wide stairway from the main downstairs room to the upstairs hall. I asked the homeowner if he knew of any access to get under it, as it was perfectly situated for the cable run. He made a face and hesitated for a few seconds. He than said, 'Yeah, but that's where I keep my guns'.

After being sworn to secrecy, I was shown the shelving unit in the back of the kitchen pantry that rolled aside, and the removable wall panel behind it that gave access to the under-stair space. I pulled my cable and closed it back up.

It wasn't 'secret agent' worthy, and not very physically secure. It was hidden well enough that average thieves could have torn the rest of the house apart and never found it, though.
